Bacon and Eggs and the Sunday Paper

My alarm clock doesn’t ring on Sunday

so I lie still and try to snooze

But Mamma always told me

when ya snooze, ya looze

And even now I cannot quite

bring myself to sleep past seven

But Gawd I’d love just once

to not wake up ‘til eleven

But there’s eggs to fry and bacon, too

and the Sunday comics to read

There’s coffee to brew and toast to burn

and a bunch of kids to feed

My alarm knows when to be quiet

and just once I’d like to stay

Cuddled up in bed with my nice warm guy

but those danged kids get in the way

And he’s already up, Sunday paper in hand

waiting to be served his bacon and eggs

While the dog watches for a few crumbs to drop

and the cat winds himself ‘round my legs

… it’s no use, I give up, it’s hopeless

you and me both. I would give anything to be able to ignore those little twitches that tell me I need to get up and get moving. Your rhyming is wonderfully fresh and unforced. Excellent poem.
    All the best,
    love,

You always write delightful rhymes, no matter what subject you choose to write about.

I'd stay in bed for that once and throw the eggs on the head of anyone who would dare to wake me up
    Yes, I'm a lovely woman

    I enjoyed your Sunday breakfast

Oh, Dee, I absolutely love this.

You have no ~idea~ how much I would love

    to just sleep in.

But is that going to happen? NO, of course not

Very cute. Thank you for sharing,

and best of luck in the contest.

My David, he's a matchbook salesman, he eats more than any man alive! But he frustrates me sometimes so I have to take my anger out in other ways. I burn his steak a lot.

Sunday's are great. on that day I burn his toast and coffee.

Now, why doesn't this surprise me??!! A lot of satisfaction can come from burning the toast and those ten dollar steaks, especially when they're for a couch potato. But burning the coffee??!!! That's bad, bad... and a great way to get even
And I can see where Yem gets his fiestiness, it must run in the family

      Burn to your hearts's content

      Thanks for the read

The early bird gets the worm,

but the second mouse gets the cheese.
Let them cook their own breakfast .lol

Being a mom has no reprieve especially when the kids are young and its hard to get a way the weekly routine. It's a 24/7 profession and hungry men need to be fed but we can still dream about having Sunday breakfast in bed.

Great picture you paint of a woman just wanting a little break. Good luck in the contest.

I hear ya, Sweetie. It's so wonderful to wake up without an alarm...but often, the rest of the world just won't let you sleep, no matter what. Moxie. Yeahhh, you've got it, Lady. Good luck in the contest.

Just yell out to him...I'm sleeping in, you'll have to fix breakfast yourself
then roll over and go back to sleep.
If he does do it for himself then he will appreciate you even more...

    Hugs...Eddy

I woke up at 6:06 this morning. It's the latest I've been in bed for several weeks. Ah I long to wake up about 8 some Saturday morning but my body is trained to wake up early.

They say it's as easy to make breakfast for 3 as it is two, so when Hubby is done with the sports page, have him pass it over to me.

Thanks for entering the contest. Yay, I have enough entries to hand out trophies. Thanks!

a smooth read that explains all your desires in a nice fashion. Just try to sleep in tomorrow and see what happens then you will gain: more time in bed! joy

Oh to have blessed days like that, but life calls us out of that slumber, only thing for me it is more the hope of Saturday mornings for family since I wouldnt want to snooze or lose on Sunday to worship the Lord in church. In any medical profession you give up those rights to those kind of mornings, my dad was the Sunday breakfast maker, they had a bad experience with a church so I was home with my parents back in the day, so this was a heartfelt memory for me. Excellent. Blessings.
