Learning Yiddish

So I visited a website a few minutes ago called The Yiddish Handbook: 40 Words You Should Know and this is what I came away with:

A shmaltzy young schmuck of a goy
was shmoozing a yenta named Gert
kibbitzing all cutesy and coy
his shtick was so thick she was hurt.

"Oh stop with your bupkiss and spiel
your kvetching's offensive and gay,
you're such a non-kosher shlemiel
just shtup me and be on your way!"

Author notes

No offense intended, yadda, yadda...

What did you think and why did you think it?

Once upon a time you could do work on your car, yourself. Even make it an outing.

When the car stopped in the woods, the two ladies set out the picnic while he put sheets on the trees.

"What is he going to do?" asked the widow.

    "Focus" replied her friend.

    "What? Both of us?"

A fun way to learn Yiddish, for sure. KInd of a tongue twister in a way. Enjoyed the poem. Did you change your name a while ago? Have not been on much since Christmas and have been kind of out of touch with what's been going on here. GIves one a chuckle or two...

Yeah, it has been a long time!

I actually tried to kick the A.P. habit. It seemed to me I had enough material for a book, so I deleted all my poetry on here, changed my user name, and then spent about a month assembling some of my favorite drawings, photos, computer art and poems and created a book called "Grieves for Lass." Well, the Lulu pdf converter wouldn't convert it, CricketJeff tried converting it but couldn't, and finally it became such a pain in the tuches (as the Yiddish say) that I got fed up with it and put it out there for free as a Microsoft .doc file. Lulu was going to charge $46.50, I think so I was going to make it $50.00 even. But realistically, who's got that kind of dough these days to drop on a silly poetry book anyway? I liked it because it was going to be a 50 Mb file for $50.00 available on my 50th birthday. I thought maybe the stars were in alignment or something! So anyway, if you're interested, Here Is The Link

I spent eighteen years in the jewelry industry and I assure you, this isn't the first time I have heard these words.

    Creative as always.

  • So many of these Yiddish words have become part of the American language that any reader will know that you are a nasty-mouth momzer, but funny as hell.

      LOL

Hey Top... I was doing a search on something wholly unrelated, but saw the link for the 40 words. So I thought I'd flip on over and see how many I knew. I probably was pretty much in the ball park on 15 of them or so. I perused the others and the idea started brewing.
