I don't need your help this day.
They are manageable for me to carry, Lord,
along life's rocky way.
I will shoulder them with strength, Lord
that I find from deep within.
Summoned by determination, Lord,
to tread away from sin.
But, I know of a friend, dear Lord
who could use your help this day
for she's fallen on the path, Lord
and her spirit's going astray.
Perhaps if you relieved her, Lord,
of a little pain and woe,
then her vision would return, Lord,
and to belief of you, she would go.
For she's struggling to believe, now, Lord,
that you're truly on our side -
because the pain has taken over her life, Lord,
she can't see you there to guide.
Nor can she your footprints, Lord,
beside her, on her way.
So please, lay down my burdens Lord,
Let you and I carry hers for her, today.
Author notes
For my sister, who's battling cancer. I know her religion is held close to her heart, but I fear that someday she will question - why she's in so much pain, why her life is turned upsidedown, and I know God will be there for her when she does; and, if needs be, I will help to carry her pain. I only wish I could take it all on my own shoulders.

This hit me pretty hard, your authors note especially did so, for my love has been battling Cancer for almost two years now and I know of the pain and the doubts your sister must have. I pray every night for God's healing hand to work in her life and for some of the pain to be placed on my shoulders. It is only through love and support that we can be of any help at all though it seems, God's will will be done no matter what "we" wish, a sad but true fact. I wish I could relieve all the suffering of my love and bring the smile back to her face to stay but I cannot and that grieves me. But I can and do pray, it's all I can do besides love and support her with all I am. Thank you for your entry and best of luck to you... Scott

Griswold,
thank you for the comment, & inspiration, & trophy.
Surprisingly, my predictions haven't come true; she remains incredibly strong in her faith in God, and, granted, we have had a little good news lately which only strengthens her beliefs - and all of ours I suppose.
I'm so sorry to read that you are going through something of the same; it's heartbreaking, and - so hard to watch. At least, when you are the ill one, you know what you have to do - but to stand back and watch as it unfolds...
Have you tried going to a Catholic lay healer? We went to one, recently, and I can honestly say it was the most emotionally spiritual experience of my life; will share through PM if you wish. I appreciate many of them are "quacks" but there do seem to be some with power in their hands - i can attest to that

Beautifully done...
A touching prayer with wonderful rhyme in a smooth, flowing narrative that moved me in its depth...
Keep up the good work...
Well done!!!

It's sad when we see a loved one suffering. I too have had the experience where I wanted to take away the pains of another. It is hard and I know that Angels surround them and are there to comfort those in need when they are hurting. Faith brings us closer to God and Angels.
Best Wishes and God bless you.
Thank you very much for your entry

Poetess12,
thank you very much for your comment
it's heartbreaking.. and i imagine at this stage, there are few in the world who haven't experienced pain & suffering first hand. you'd wish so hard to take their place rather than stand by and watch.

Symphony, this is truly a very personal and painful piece i know you have written. You watch over your sister every day and sometimes you feel so helpless because there is nothing you can do. I know the feeling with mine. Sometimes, it can be so frustrating for you and for her, yet there are times when there are smiles galore and you share some wonderful moments. I daren't think that your suister would lose that faith in her lord now....She sounds very strong at heart. A wonderfully written piece that really brings a tear to my eye. This is really really so touching in more ways than one. Thank you for sharing and I wish you the very best in the contest.

Angel-of-Chaos,
thanks
i guess this could apply to everyone, as we all probably know someone that we'd like to help with their burdens, or their sins, to make life a little easier for them
thanks for commenting
