you've shown me a new voice,
language folded over words
with ones i'd never heard
ones you had denied, often enough
to believe they were foreign,
your tongue unable to untwist
syntax
times i groped for
the measure of balance,
scales tipped
flavored with uneveness of fear
an invisible circle
drawn around yourself,
holding it all inside
the fight against a changing tide,
like your river i pushed harder,
directions of stubborn flow
from swirls of mud to
the clarity of recognition
was it so bad?
the ascent to that mountain,
rock slides here and there
with stones impenetrable
none more difficult
than my refusal to shift
there is the slightest wind change
for the bird who could never land
his eyes begin to see,
things mistaken
how errors can be unbroken
how beautiful you appear to me
a chalice overflowed
pouring the spirit out
of someone who longs to be free
understands now
the worth of the journey
discovery that truth
is playfully new
a best friend

sis...yes like you I know better too, it's when they see 'better' in themselves that makes it such a wonderful coincidence
