Not a tear spilled as my blood covered the blade;
Her eyes remained locked steadily upon my own.
Silence, the wrap of the graveyard.
The burning ignited my body and still I pressed;
And still her eyes remained unwaveringly on me.
Such a sacrifice is untimely; hard.
Iron filled the air; blood covered the wood floor;
The stained steel glistened as I withdrew it.
Death descended silently; swiftly.
Heavily I choked and seized the blade tighter;
The steel gripped like iron and I thrust hard.
The black spread wide; but how sweetly!
I watched from the shadows of life and waited;
There now trapped in the ethereal corner of life.
There she sat unmoved and still.
Not a single tear stained her gentle face;
She simply took the blade and with a caress
Sacrificed herself and her will.
Author notes
This is inspired by "Patriotism" by Yukio Mishima; where instead of dishonoring his friends or the emperor the main character ritualisticall sacrifices himself and his wife bears witness and then follows.

Wow. Another great write by my fav AP poet. Love the use of the word ethereal. She did not even spill a tear. How sad, yet heroic. I would have been pleading for the love of my life to save himself. How great the call of duty and honor must have been.... Vivid use of imagery

Thank you! The honor there was amazing... and she knew what she was to do and followed through unfailingly. Flawless.
