Be of Good Cheer

It's good to hear, I'm in the clear,
for evil wouldn't dare draw near,
my God, who is omnipotent,
can deal with all the bad things sent.

He rules the earth - the stars above,
it's said He is the God of love,
God promised me this very day,
my problems he would take away.

So nothing bad can happen now,
it's just not on, He won't allow
a single thing to spoil my life,
and all the worry and the strife,
will disappear as he draws near,
no longer will I live in fear.

But while He's looking after me,
how will he manage that and be
the ruler of the earth and sea,
while making sure I have my tea.

Protecting every man on earth,
that women too get what they're worth,
prepare for children yet unborn,
make sure no creature is forlorn.

When dog eats dog, they'll feel no pain,
oops! coffee spilt - there is no stain,
and when a storm blows windows out,
make sure that no one is about.

It's good to know that God is here,
we can relax, be of good cheer.

Author notes

The prompt, -
''Good morning,
This is God.
I will be handling all your problems today,
I will not need your help, so relax and have a great day''.

This poem is intended to be humorous, because I just don't think God/ or whatever we conceive to be running things has the time to take care of every part of our lives while also being occupied with running the Universe.

God does not micromanage things, He leaves that to us, but we must trust that what we need will be provided and this has been proven to me time and again. If we have the faith and love for God then He has the faith and love for us to see we get what is needed when needed. Trials are just that, trials, to make us learn and grow with Him and in life. There is no manual written (except arguably the Bible) that can teach us how to live productive loving lives. We learn these things slowly with many mis-steps and corrections along the way. I saw Bruce Almighty and I don't want the job myself. Thank you for entering and it was a bit humorous to me, thank you for that as well... Scott

I had to really laugh about the spilt coffee not leaving a stain.

For some reason now I'm thinking of the movie comedy "Bruce Almighty" where a guy gets to be God and has to scramble to field all the prayer requests and keep the world turning on its axis.

This was a fun read David and I enjoyed your humorous voice. Clever take on the prompt and good luck in the contest.

Great to hear I made you laugh Pixie, it certainly is the best medicine. The idea that God can be there to solve all lifes little worries ''Bruce almighty'', does make me smile also. We will never grow up if God is always there to wipe our noses, (and any other thing that needs wiping).
Hope you have a lovely day, autumn is in full swing here in England, the leaves are turning to gold, my garden is bedded down ready for winter, all bulbs planted, in fact, all pigs are in flight remarkable!

The simplicity of trust in our lives is not as easy as one would believe...We are taught to be anxious as we grow from childhood to the present..I should have, could have....and on it goes...Faith and trust have to be relearned for alot of us, whether it be God, or the people around us.You make this this very easy to understand in your poem.....Instead of making life complicated, I am sure after reading many will say, I will think the way the poet wrote it....Delightful write, bro...Rosemary

Thankyou Sis, for your lovely words, I think sometimes we ask too much of God, some things we have to learn to do for ourselves, that I think is part of why we are here. To learn to be God like in our wisdom and our actions. That will never happen if we rely on God to do everything for us

Your talented poem brings home a point. I think there are aspects of God that help us when asked.... but we have to be totally willing and openingly listening. God's helpers are there... But we are all aspects of God, just in different states of awarenss. We can't just say a couple words in the morning and then go about our ego business as usual and expect God to handle everything. - Bonita

    quite humorous indeed...

I don't look at God as a single entity who watches over things but rather as the
actual things themselves. Duality is the only thing to me that explains all.
Think of the Big Bang as God and AntiGod the ultimate dual. Since all is created
from that single unit, all now has both good and bad in it. It is but by our choice
whether we will live from the good or bad side. The Bible I believe says God
knows all, sees all, is all. So instead of looking outside we can also look inside
for ever single speck, of any existence, has both this God/AntiGod within it,
us included. This is why prayer by itself is basically useless, it is only when action
is applied that it can finally spread its wings. I can pray to win the lotto but if
I don't buy a ticket I can't and if I find a ticket on the ground but don't take the
action to bend down and pick it up I can't win either. It's the action that sets
things finally in motion. I can pray for a job, but if I don't apply for one, answer
the door when someone knocks or pick up the phone when they call I have a
zero chance of receiving what I ask for. Both good and bad will come throughout
life, we have no control over that action, but what we do have control over
is our REaction to those actions and that is what gives us the power in the end.
Life is simple in the end, it is us who complicate it through seeking wants
instead of needs. Almost all unhappiness comes from not getting what
we "want", whether that be in getting OR losing a thing or a person. Once we
eliminate our wants and focus on our needs things tend to become a lot
smoothing in the end. We will still have some hurt, but at least we will know
why/where the hurt comes from and so we can do things to lessen it over
time. If one looks at different religions you soon began to see basic roots
and then "wants" added to them, each person wants a certain "personal" fulfillment and this is why so many religions exist. I look at all religions this
    way.
I see God as the sands of a beach and religion as a person coming along
and scooping up a bucket full and saying "Follow me, for I know the way."
Why would a settle for only a bucketful when I can have the entire beach...

    Have a great weekend

Well Eddy, that is quite a reply you have given me, thankyou so much for taking the time. I agree with every word you have spoken. We will have to form a new religion together. Only our religion will be the only true one, and we will put everyone to death who does not agree with us,LOL. I have just been reading a new book which is called, - ''Why call me God'' by J. H. Hatfield. Which looks at the Bible from the original language it was written in which was Greek. I didn't know that. I thought it would have been written in Arabic. But apparently even Genesis was first written down in Greek. according to the Author, the whole book is a fiction, which is filled with hidden messages, hiding what is really being said. if you read Genesis there are actually two creation stories, and that is very significant. The book is hard to read and ultimately very boring as it becomes very repetative in it's assertions. But it's conclusions would blow the church of Rome into oblivion if people were prepared to read and understand it. Thankyou once more for your insightfull comments

It' similar to what I said in a recent write only yours is humorous and rhymes! But we seem to have somewhat similar points of view here. I always wonder about what happens in wartime: both sides pray to God but only one side wins. If anyone can be said to win. Maybe God is trying to teach us a lesson.

I am so glad you saw the humour here Judith, when we start taking ourselves too seriously thats when we start killing each other because we have a different idea of what God is, thankyou for reading, of course I agree with what you have said. As to God teaching us a lesson. I think our whole life is a lesson. it was Gandhi who said, - ''My life is my message''

Thankyou Eddy, I did write this tongue in cheek, I don't think God can protect us from every eventuallity, as I'm sure you will agree, otherwise we would not be in the mess we are in now

    trust in God

we react as if we don't...

    we panic

    me, my , I

    is why we panic

what if all were temporal and will be gone

    if not now than later

I wonder if this is why we are not to love things of the world

perhaps it was not a angry God but a loving God

who doesn't want His children to be in pain.

He gave commandment, not to control but to guide

as we would and do for our own children

    love this contest prompt

    you have a gold!!

    God bless you David...

Not to control, but to guide, exactly as you say Kathy. To be honest I wrote this poem with tongue in cheek, because although I love the spirit of the prompt, I don't believe God can handle all our problems, that is what we are hear to work out for ourselves. Our temporal bodies(as you put it), cannot be protected from natural disasters, or personnal loss. We are here to be exposed to these life changing events. Of course we can and should put our faith/trust in god/the universe, when we are truely enlightened enough to do that. Sometimes a simple faith is all that is needed.
