Her footsteps echoed
Through the empty marble hall
She thought she heard something
But her eyes never saw
There were pictures of mirrors
Reflecting nothing at all
And drawings of doors
That did not open
She sensed an uneasy presence
As if she was being watched
Was there someone in the shadows
Something peering through the walls
Or was it just a nightmare
Created in her mind
Some vindictive demon
From a memory
Or was she going crazy
Out of her tree, around the bend
But then again it might be sanity
Sneaking in

Wow, very well done. I think she was in a mental asylum, am I right?
I loved the lines about the mirrors reflecting nothing at all. Thanks for entering and good luck in my contest.

I like this, quiet a sinister feel to it!
"but then again it might be sanity sneaking in" that line took me by surprise! great work!

Reminds me of the looking glass
Trapped in a world of nonsense just to be released into a world with no sense.
We are so fragile minded that most of us teeter on the brink of sanity. After all what is real? In the end who really knows.
I loved this eye opening write, the deep haunting dispair. Sanity sneaking in!
