Having spent my life thinking of others,
I feel I’m qualified to reminisce of such?
Forty years ago I was thinking of my
Brothers in arms, and they of me;
For we fought for one another, not for
Any political goals or glory. For there is
No glory in war. None, save pain, heartache,
Suffering, horror and yes, most of the time,
Boredom, stifling boredom.
We thought of one another often-we all-
And when one was lost we sat and rubbed
Our fingers across our forehead, shutting
Our eyes in disbelief.
And while the conflict officially came to
An end, our disbelief never did.
And then- being young- began to think of
Those who claimed to love us-claimed to-
~Being the key words~
Only to discover that such ~was not~
And no, I shall not go there, why rehash
Mistakes of the past-for the past is well,
~past~
And so, now, I long for what I thought
Was mine long ago- but wasn’t-
Quite honestly I was miserable for years,
Seeking what I was certain was lost.
But, of more recent times, the last three
Years or so, I have discovered nothing
Was lost, but rather never obtained in
The first place, thus how is one to lose,
What they never had to begin with?
But now, these last three months, I have
Discovered caring for one individual
24/7, like no other, for reasons that both
Surprised and perplexed me at first.
However, she has taught me the whys
And wherefores of ~why~ such- is such,
And for that magic, which is love;
I dedicate this to you-
~ Tory ~
Love you,
Len

This is beautifully penned and lets your readers know why those who served their country are so special. It gives insight to the wonderful things that make up the author of this poem and explains the depth of love that he can give. I do and always have admired you Len I’m just sorry we have a difference of opinion regarding who and what I can say to others. Be well, you’re a wonderful person and I’m very happy for you and Tory. Sorry, I’ll still comment on her poetry.
Love,

"For there is no glory in war". What a profound statement, especially from a soldier.
May you have real glory, and happiness.

Very powerful, sentimental... you don't need to sugar coat life, your existance, you laid it out there and what love from a good woman can do, we do come to realize we still have to obtain things, we limit ourselves on what we deserve, only the advisary loves to bring up the past, but we do have the present and the future, much blessings to tori and yourself...the appreciation for her really tugs at this woman's heart. Excellent. Blessings.

This was indeed the most powerful piece I have read
not because it was dedicated to me
but because of the content that led to
finding a woman who isnt deserving of
what you and others have to offer. Your words
have exhausted my heart and suffocated my soul
FOR the words of pain, searching, longing, and suffering
during time of long ago, many can relate to,
being shipped overseas and such for war
only having their brothers in uniform as "family"
Thinking we have found what we needed or shall
I say we expected as "love" only to realize that
the past years were only stepping stones to what
the future has in store for us. Sometimes, more lessons,
sometimes true love. When you finally find it
the battle is over. The war within us comes to close.
This poem shows the strength to fight, to seek, to wait.
Although, I feel its another stepping stone, for I, do not
deserve any of this. I do thank you for who you are and
all you have done, in loving, caring and such.
All I can say is thank you, thank you Len.
If my heart wasnt so worn and beaten,
and my life meaningless, I would say,
YOU GOT YOURSELF A WINNER, But, Im afraid not.
But then again, maybe I have fought the final battle yet
or maybe I am toughening you up for the right one.
Love you my dear.
May you be blessed with all you deserve.
