his dad
went a'walking
when he realized he can't
love someone who can't
stop falling through
hollow walls
and
who won't ever
remember who he
was the day before
-
carbon monoxide dreams
realigned his bones
throughout his body
the radio was left on
a station of
jazz
his feet laid motionless
and eyes were set on the
landscape of brick out
his window
the garage door
was closed
to the world
-
he came and went
in my memories
slowly colouring
himself out
of my life
until I couldn't
even remember
what shade of
green his eyes were
at school,
the teachers
took his name off
the attendance list because
they forgot how to
pronounce it without
crying
-
mama poured another
glass of wine and told
me that his dad is
prepared in ways
he wishes he would've
been prepared
in years ago
