The Well of Souls

Some say
she is barren,      that her depths devour all
so as to place bone offerings
before the bringer of sleep.

Some know her as dry ocean~
where saline essence took its exodus
long ago.

Still others
remark upon her ghosts~    Barbed bugaloos
that seep menacing shadows
while the canyon mongrels keen
to yellows    moon bleeds    upon her sabulous globes.

But when I think on her,      rivers come
to cover o'er my abyss of chaos with swaying motion
like a sand-walker with mounds full.

...She fills my mind with solitude,
an elixir of Solomon.

And if I could,
I would splay {skin nude} upon her dome
just to listen to Sakhrah's song;

just to watch winds scour new altars
from bleached stone and balled sage.

I would crawl across her belly,
disengage from body in her secret well~

Confident the Cold
                would be quelled before entrance.

One could say surreal, the imagery painted here with your brush. But, I could feel the feminity of body and soul here, a long ago memory of a womb. Yes the thoughts of Solomon seemed familiar....a mystic spirituality gives this write a mood that leaves an powerful impression on the readers!

You begin your work with enchantment and end it with surrealism. The poem evokes deep, unbridled thought. The soul is not any easy concept to capture but you have done exceedingly well with this masterpiece. The intelligence of words that flow in and out of the psyche piques the interest of the reader and lets us know that this is not a haphazard work of words. Your poem is stellar dear friend. Thank you for your author notes, and the link. I wish you the best in the challenge.

    Enlightening.

Seeing deeper still, thanks to your writing. Like the moon, any light that comes from us is only due to our ability to reflect.

Poetry of this depth doesn’t come from just blithely throwing together words to sound artsy. You are truly an artist who paints with words and your style is delightfully mystical enough to coax us into deeper waters, but the substance found there is the real treasure.

    Keep it shining,
    Danny Alexander (Danny Boy)

    Hmm. Very sexy write!
You've hit an interesting part of the soul - conception before individuality.
I normally dislike when people talk about men or women when they think of soul because love itself isn't soul, love is a deceptive emotion that forms like evil sap, gluing to your soul.

Sex and passion on the other hand are DEFINITELY soulful. You can't fake sex or passion or ever misguide these feelings because they're like instant reactions employed by another person. While you can hold back, that's only due to fear and discomfort of these powerful emotions.
You've even taken this to another level with conception; I really love the metaphor "her secret well." Awesome.

    Thanks for entering.

  • Seems as if rivers are rising a "bit" these days. That's a tricky road to Master.

    As usual, a Delightful Masterpiece!

I adore the references and composites of your poems. Their elements of history and under tones are never done too extremes but always within taste and way above the ordinary. You always reach so far with your poems and your contests. You bring us all up higher. Thank You
