Tycho's Nose and VanGogh's Ear

There's a crater on the moon
named Tycho
after Tycho Brahe
an astronomer of vast reknown

When he raised his eyes to heaven
starlight glinted off his nose
brass or silver, pewter, gold
whichever one he chose

He kept his old one drying
in the chilly northern sun
he'd lost it in a duel
came thus his schnoz, undone

Actually that's a minor point
like VanGogh's lamented ear
it didn't cause upheaval
in either man's career

VanGogh of course made pictures
got famous after death
Tycho mapped the starry skies
until he last drew breath

Oil paints and astrolabes
were the tools of their professions
they hardly missed those body parts
no longer their possessions

I'd like to think somewhere they dance
to the Music of the Spheres
a tango or the jitterbug
Tycho's nose and VanGogh's ear

    Ha!

But I kept wondering about the historical accuracy- wasn't Van Gogh and his brother dead within the year? Then again, I worry when watching films, when a character gets out of a cab in a hurry, without paying, and the taxi-driver cheerfully drives off, and then.....

    Had a proper (internal) laugh.

The well is not dry! Both fellows may have lost some focal points but they probably did pair up and go out on the town. Tycho sniffing brandy while
VanGogh leaned in to listen to his rambling.
