As in a dream, I wander blind;
amongst the annals of humankind.
The comprehensive collected prose
of past visionaries rests in rows,
awaiting yet one more rediscovery;
our passed legion's great philosophy.
Whilst they wait for me to greet
with opined arms, I hear the beat
of hearts that sound of pendulums:
a throbbing tick; the tocking drums.
It is as though thought seeks to rest,
and truth elusive, not quite surpressed;
and truth the lowpoint in the swing
of searching arms ever missing.
In time the swing will seem to stop
and truth will be just one more tock.
Until that time we wander blind,
amongst the pendulous humankind.

Latet, This must be a new feature of the site, that it sends your poem to my email. I haven't been on allpoetry since forever, but, hey, you know what, I really enjoyed this poem. The second to last stanza is eloquent! The sound imagery, the darkish mood, and the theme of searching for knowledge call to mind an Emily Dickenson poem I had to write a paper on once, that starts, "I felt a funeral in my brain". Coincidence? Why "Responsive" (in the title)? Keep it up with your writing, you have talent.

Recently I have been brushing up on my "Christian Fundamentalist" history. It has become apparent to me that it is a reaction to several things: Darwinism, the Historical-Critical method of interpreting the Bible, and the teaching of Secular Humanism in public education. I found that as I thought about it, I realized that all human thought has been in reaction to something preceding it. It was almost as though it were a pendulum ever seeking to be at rest - to find the truth - but always over-swinging; always over-reacting. It then occurred to me that I had seen something like this before. In calculus there are functions which rapidly approach zero but never reach it. It seemed to me that this was like the evolution of thought; we rapidly get nearer and nearer to truth, eliminating what is false, yet never quite reach what it is we are searching for.
I am glad you enjoyed it!
