What Goes on in Yem's Head

Intriguing
the concept of viewing
the intricate working
of an author's mind

exciting
the breathless anticipating
the extreme heart-pounding
of what one might find

energizing
the ideas circulating
the treasure trove evolving
of genius defined

searching
flashlights circling
lighting book shelves straining
under weight of classics confined

Bukowski, Plath and Ogden Nash
rank in  alphabetized stash
with Whitman, Twain and Longfellow,
comfortable with Bandeira as bedfellow.

exclaiming
when toe-stubbing
stone well discovering
the incredible mastermind

imbibing
when following the tubing
of the Goldberg-like still so willing
producing the elixir of the refined

overwhelming
the total experience unwinding
the Moxie elixir addicting
the master blowing the mind

If you would be so privileged,
you might share the experience alleged
and discover from all you have read
just what goes on in Yem's head.

Author notes

Prompt: What goes on in Yem's head

(Graphics by A2K, the Moxie guy/character
standing in for Yem as he has done in previous tales.)

The Power of Moxie"
http://allpoetry.com/poem/5861018

More insight on the subject:

Doorway to introspection,
window to the soul,
light play on shadows,
the writer plays his role.

Pathway to adventure,
roller coaster of emotion,
spotlight on passion,
the writer plies his love potion.

Time worn trail to treasures of the past,
open volumes of relevant connection,
true sense of intelligence,
the writer pursues the reflection.

Petal strewn stepping stones,
freshened with new shoots arising,
multi pasts and futures intermingled,
the writer surpasses surprising.

Raceway of tumbling, crazy clowns,
parade of classics, compelling and historic,
reclusive Renaissance man,
the writer pleads the metaphoric.

Roadways lead to one shocking destination,
nature's seclusion called Yemish Territory,
the Mayne state to find the unusual character,
Yemassee, of multi-personas, the subject of this story.

If line could delineate
shape and form,
if value and texture
could build complexity,
if word could delve
between the layers,
if comprehension
could peel away
in revelatory manner,
myriad man would stand
humble, yet proud,
as the Moxie man.

You see... I must give you all the accolades in the world to thoroughly understand what goes on in Yem's mind. LOL Oh yes, we surely all know MOXIE but the other stuff, the stuff of art and fun, and surprise... is all here, and that my dear is Mr. Yemessee for sure.

You are going to make me commit to at least one visit to his pages per day. LOL Excellent!

Congrats on earning the Emerald Chalice!

I'd like to meet this man's taylor. He's a trendsetter and no doubt we'll be seeing this tin can look on Paris runways in to time along the lines of Lucy and Ethel wearing burlap potato sacks and lamp shades courtesy of Ricky and Fred. lol

This is an enjoyable creative take of the process inside an author's mind.

First that graphic is so cool. The books, the Moxie, the straw going down into the well. All of that in the Mainiac's head. Hey do I see a wing? Is that Pixiestix trying to get out????? We can't have that? Got a plunger?

    ''exciting
    the breathless anticipating
    the extreme heart-pounding
    of what one might find''

That is good. I know that's how I try to approach writings in general, including those by folk here on AP. What's the fun if you can't put yourself into your work, if you can't anticipate what you'll find out about the poet, about his work, or what goes on inside it. There are hints about us in most everything we write and it's fun finding out those little treasure (or time bombs, lol)

Lots of books are a pain to dust. I need to hire someone. I wonder if I could hire an illegal alien? Maybe you and Pix will dust them, you're both from away.

My head is indeed like a Rube Goldberg creation. And just like his contraptions, my noggin does simple things in a complex manner, lol

No idea what goes on in my head and most of the people who know me ask the same thing, I hear all the time, "What in heck were you thinking about?"

So much to capture in a small space,
but just a snapshot of a moment in
time, as dreams unfold about brewing
Moxie in the well. Of course, there is
still a lodge to design (a new home for
the Moxie group)so many more opportunities
to show the stored ingredients, the stash
      of gentian root, etc.

You selected the stanza that conveys
that anticipation, finding out what someone
has to say---a true depiction of looking
at your lists---hovering over with the mouse--
which adventure to jump into today---
as well as the manner in which you plunge

Yes. reading the page, reading the person,
particularly evident the deeper one delves.

      Wing answer below!

Ah, too far the distance, or would trade dusting
for shrub trimming and throw in REAL Barilla pasta
with my zillion ingredients and a mile high salad!
(All my varied mints reaching up to the lights in
the garage herb garden, oregano struggling a bit,
      rosemary holding her own!)

Hope the books I left to be dusted had names
meeting your approval. I remembered, I looked,
I punted! Top book name above the well did not
fit within the lines athe others fell in space,
so she sits there by herself.

Thank you, Rube, for the new name configuration!

Is that what it looks like in there? Where are the cobwebs and pork rinds? Is this open season on fairies or what? Even you have me going down the well or am I in there draining all the Moxie from the sacred spring? LOL

It is my best guess that the Earl of Moxie will certainly enjoy this.

    Super great piece here, Aes.

      Armed with many flashlights,
      the illumination revealed
      more than could be told
      in a brief snapshot
      Rather like engraving
the world on the head of a pin!!

My theory on the wing: Pixarducci
had been tossed down the well
so many times that she became
      addicted to the feather-softening
      properties of Moxie, which now
is being secretly brewed in the
      well, thanks to Yem's Rube-like
      invention! So, the winged one
      may have slipped in unnoticed,
then takin a moment to Ginger-shake
      the excess!

      Thanks, pucci!

So Moxie is a special conditioner for wings? LOL I bet it could strip paint too. LOL One day I'll find the stuff (Moxie) if I wander far enough North and give it a try.

Ginger-shake is a funny image. lol She hates water aside from drinking, especially on her head. She turns over like a pretzel with her feet still planted on the floor to rub her head on the rug to dry it, lets herself drop and proceeds to scoot herself across the floor. I need to get that on video one of these days. lol

I had a memory of a Ginger story with the aversion
          to exterior water!!!

Moxie---better than hairspray! Will keep you neat and shiny!!!

    P.S.

    Your work (art & word) can be summed up by your third stanza;

    energizing
    the ideas circulating
    the treasure trove evolving
    of genius defined

      Oh, thank you Marandah!

Re Moxie---a soft drink with a taste
that has to be aquired. Related to the
state of Maine, Yem's home state!

No sorry I can't collaborate on something like this

    1) I have no idea what Moxie is, and 2) you're too far out of my league!

But thank you for the link here and thank you for your fifth stanza - it is always great to find new references to the talented AP authors' inspirations. I have read Charles Bukowski's work before (again, only discovering him after reading an AP poem)

The great poets do tell of poetry being an imitative art so the only way to learn is to read, read, read.

    Bye for now

      Oh, Marandah---I hadn't meant this one---just
nodding to your collab suggestion some time.

Just opening your mind to some other AP minds!!

You have the right idea---read, read, read!!

    Fantastic Drawing ...

to 'head' it all up (no pun intended) and I love how your elaborated it all with the words that he wears so well. Your poems also deserve a re-glance from my optic nerve and I see that you have also done a good job with them as well. You have a cleverness that revives any thoughts that may not be quite fashionable to be seen around this very prestigious contest site. So glad to see your charming entry!

"girls just wanna have fun" and besides someone forgot to block others who are not members ... so I was able to toss the ball about just the same! Hey, hold on ... I think that I see a line dangling ...

Mornin' M-C ... I don't do well at parties and much prefer one-on-one conversations that don't scatter thoughts too far! Besides, if I keep going to parties there won't be anymore thought=full poems from me and that would make me sadder than it would make anyone else. It's like my daily fish!

                  Oh, sad faces all around
if your thoughts both fun and profound
                  would not flourish and abound!!!

Bigperm had posted a note about a contest
to bring back some life to the group---for
only a few of us check in on the comment board.

So Master Yem went to work and incorporated
the ideas and kept going and going and going
un til he hit 40 prompts!

I hope we don't give him a headache,
with all this traipsing in and out
      of his head!!

It is possible you could find Moxie in your area--
very Maine, east coastish!! I'll ask Yem to
      leave some clues.

But you might want to check out the description,
gentian root the characteristic ingredient of
      Moxie---described as an acquired taste!!

The theme of my series, Quest, about going badk
in time to search for the origin of "Roxie!"

      Thank you, Kathy.
I love your always unique comments!!

      Hwy, Jayde!!

I rather liked that one, too,
      searching in a darkened room
compared to peering in Yem's head--
both the room and the head
      with well-filled book shelves
      of the well-read Yemassee!

      Thanks for stopping in---
Your comments are always so enthusiastic
      and bring me a smile!!
