THE POEM

Darkness has fallen across the land
an evil curse that has been set
From the mouth of a Sorcerer
who does not easily forget

Rejected in marriage by a local girl
it drove the sorcerer wild
So he took out his revenge
on every female child

No girl that dreams of marriage
will have her special day
While the red mist sits on the mountain top
the sorcerers angry heart is on display

The only way to remove the mist
is with the staff of Right
Owned by the Oracle
that walks the woods so bright

Is there a champion among us
one who would stay the course
Announced the village elder
to him I pledge my home, my daughter, my horse

I could not resist this offer
fight it in my mind I may
But I am a Journeys man
now I must be on my way

I wandered through the valley
where the tallest trees grow
Where the clearest water ripples
as the rocks stem its flow

I saw a stranger on a stump
I demanded to know his name
I am the Oracle the one you seek
how do you know this I exclaimed

You need the staff of right
to dispel the cursed red mist
It’s at the frozen water fall
beneath the ice so crisp

Then I see the path ahead of me
that will take me where it may
My journey now lies elsewhere
along this foot-worn way

Squirrels frolic in the sunshine
birds sing as they take flight
Do they know a secret
that to me is out of sight?

Ahead a vision still unclear
yet beckoning me, “Move on”
Bring forth what lies ahead
before the day is done

Crystal waters now block my path
its expanse calls forth to me
A dugout lies upon the shore
should I cross this inland sea

As I looked around me cautiously
taking in the sunlit shore
I slowly began to feel at one with life
as if a higher being had opened up a door

The water rushes onward
scarcely slowed by Nature’s whim
Dark foreboding clouds form
while waves breach the dugout’s brim

The tiny boat was whipped by seas
that would have sunk fitter Stock
But in the calm of Morning light
the small craft rests upon a rock

The Journeyman awakens
to the shine of crystal ice
And the frozen water fall
that from the ocean rise

Carefully he starts his accent
moving skillfully up the face
When he spots the staff
just below the icy lace

Clinging to the frozen water
he chips away with his blade
Until he prize is uncovered
the staff is now displayed

Upwards to the top of the fall
hands frozen to the bone
The courage of this mortal
has never yet been known.

The mountains loomed ahead
beyond the cliff’s steep face
They beckoned to be climbed
to reveal a mysterious place

Without the aid of rope
his hands are raw and worn
The cold rips at his chest
with each breath that now is drawn

The summit is within his grasp
the end is close at heart
He feels the staff of right glow warm
its time for them to part...

Mist surrounds the mountain peak
colored by the sun’s icy glare
Its hue a rosy red
gloating as if to dare

With the last ounce of energy
he watched the artifact spin
Swallowed by the mountain snow
disappearing deep within

A rumble, a shake
then a mighty roar
As gases from the depth of hell
from this hole now tore

The mist began to disappear
until at last it was no more
The villagers no longer had to fear
the Journeyman had evened the score…

Beaten, tired he lay
when the staff flew back into his hand
And with renewed strength
the Journeyman now stands

The staff has chosen
the one that fights for right’
Its time now to receive
its power and might….

  • WOW!

I'm really not sure what to say, though it was a cheesy story (as most stories like this are, take no offense please) I really liked it! I can tell you both put hours of effort into making this a pure success! Congratulations on your masterpiece! Definitely deserves a FEW gold trophies, more than one.

All my applause, are belong to this.

    Another Incredible from me too!..

Geez.....I just watched the video that you put with this...I am astounded! That was soooo good. The music/song in the background fitted perfectly with the theme of your poem. The narrative was well spoken and the drawings told the story visually. That was the first time I have seen anything like that...poetry, video and cartooning combining together for one complete experience. I can see why the younger ones would prefer this approach. So much effort must have gone into that piece. Gosh...do earn a living from doing this? ...I hope so!

I can see why you are the Cyber Artist now. A perfectly apt name for you. I enjoyed the whole experience of this piece. Great work...Alby

What an outstanding presentation. You two did a fantastic job on this piece. I have to commend you on the soundtrack as well, it really added to the effect as sure as any big screen movie. It made a HUGE impact. The story alone is wonderfully done but I will admit after watching it on video, there is just no comparison. I think I am ready to go kick arse and take names somewhere. It really stokes the spirit. Take a bow, you two deserve it and a standing O! Love this!

FANTASTIC! And I'm only as far as the text
    and the book.

    Stunning graphics with outstanding layout,
each page filled with visual excitement!

You excell in selecting the area to illustrate,
the point of view of the observer, in order to
keep the eye of the reader fascinated with
    each new page.

You make it appear easy, the adept way you
layout each page, elements balanced against
each other. Only when a reader would actually
attempt the feat would that person truly
appreciate the difficulty and the time involved!!

The well-crafted story carries interest flowing
along form each phase of the adventure.

The crystal sea page is extraodinary in its quality
as art. But then, the hero reaching the top of the falls,
so well done, the viewer observing from above, but still
    seeing the dramtic full face.

    Weill be back again!!

    Kudos on kudos!!!

As brilliant as any could be....

This is an outstanding piece, not only of narration, but writing skill from you both.
The video adds a body to the story line so effortlessly, But the added sparkle is the angelic voices of those girls from Celtic Women. If you were looking for the high spot, not that of the mountain, but of this challenge, you both succeed with ease.
This has to be one of the most dramatic posts this site has seen for a long time, and in the time to come.
I am pleased you tok up the challenge, and found reference within the given prompt.
You nailed it, simply nailed it.
    Thank you, Thank you Both.

This is like a way of a Storyteller

When my sister Catz said Sis you just got to listen to him speak and watch the viedo I thought to myself. By golly someone finally did it. To what I didnt know!!!! So I came in here and it was as if I was in a circle with all the children of the old ways who would sit and listen to the storyteller tell of the old ways. Now with the viedeo that is what I need and My sister knew it. Help me so much. Those of us who has a speaking puter like me Havee to have some of the work read to us because of the font set so TINY i cannot read it. I hope you continue to do this more. For itis like a story teller telling the story again. You did a wonderful job and Iam glad my sister did have patient with you lolsssss. I love her dearly. Keep up the great work. I would love to do one on here about the ways of life of my people. maybe they would understand it better.

Love the comic book and the artwork, brilliant!

You have weaved the tale well into a poem but I feel it could still do with a bit of editing, as the rythmn tends to slip every now and then. The meter can change the speed of the pace, which it does well in most places but now and then, I found myself tripping over my tongue.

Saying that I congratulate on the amount of work in this & agree it would make a great series.

  • Hey, where's the oooo's and ahhhh's in the beginning of the poem? lol j/k

Now do you know what the very first thing I caught myself searching for when the narration began? The heart of the narrator...

I notice that you do the ocean swells well (around the 'dugout', which you have a familiar name for)... bespeaks a closeness with the ocean, it does...

I see this is a mod challenge... and you scared everyone off...!

I think you should continue the Journeyman series, no telling what adventures he'll find himself one...

  • Wow this is just excellent! It must have taken you a long time to put this altogether. I love the story you wove, the rhyme, evbrything Nice piece of music in the background too.
Excellent indeed. Your talent shines through
    Best wishes with this
