book packing and a glass of wine

each book I have bought,
or received from love or lovers
lays flat like old flakes  - beautiful golden flakes,
on my tall wooden bookshelf

and today I packed them away into
petite breasted boxes
to move each paper-smelling
ghostly-thin
or fatty-fleshed fiction
to a new home.

everything from 'The Little Book Of Marmite Recipes'
to 'God: A Biography'
The F1 books I bought him 2 years ago
from Borders on Oxford Street,
the two copies of 'The God Delusion', one for him and one for me
“because the best experiences in life are shared”,
he penciled on the in-slip.

'Sylvia Plath’s Collected journals', 'The Letter of Ted Hughs' –
both a Christmas shopping spectacular in Bristol City
long before love
or poetry
or death existed in my one eyed thinking.

'Little Women', 'Goodnight Mr Tom', 'A Tale of Two Cities'
I still remember cramming those in
on a melting underground train
from Victoria to Woolwich.

I have had such a fond life, I think
while pressing my Byron classics
to make love with Margaret Atwood
(he wouldn’t have liked her anyway, I smirk)

and I can clearly remember my last birthday
when he bought me two gems which,
if read with an open head and two pennies spare,
I knew would bring something to life
from my squirming insides.

A thesaurus and a dainty book on poetic device
and I love him for remembering
that my world is not just
all about marmite.

I've always had a thing for women who like to push my buttons okay, so you broke my rules but atleast you did it well lol...I enjoyed this so thank you for allowing me to read it.

books are sweet and I think the one's people own(or gift to others) speak volumes about them.

I just moved recently. I realized that the only material possessions that I own are three laundry baskets full of clothes, and seventeen boxes of books. My fiance asked if I was going to throw out the ones that I hadn't read in a long time. I questioned why I was going to marry him when he asked that LOL.

it was nice to see that someone else close to my age reveres books. I loved this piece. especially when you made up a small story about how Byron wouldn't much care for Atwood. This piece made me want to send you books lol.

Needless to say, i felt a bit at home in this piece.

Byron was known to bring prostitutes back to his hotels and homes, dress them as men and call them Glen

      (for real) x

A very personal poem. Can't help but feeling a little sad when the memories roll the my head for the mental aspect is just as imporyant as the physical and when you are close enough to read and share inner thoughs plus the physical, that is as tight as you can get except though childbirth. That is the u;tamate, the two crating the one, a GOD given blessing. Thank you for sharing.
