Hidden

To feel fear you must look within
Look into the deepest recesses of your mind
Have you hidden it away?
Forgotten what it was like?

To truly experience the suffocation
The inescapable net that is fear
You must be willing to reach deep into your soul
Reach till you've come to the bottom, and pull out what lies beneath

What will you find?
You will find... it is you
We are our own greatest fears
After all, who knows us better?

You want to revel in what it is to be afraid?
Do you want to know the bitter taste?
Do you wish to roll it on your tongue?
Because you can, when you are afraid it is palpable in the air

You need only to find that spot within yourself
The piece of us we all keep hidden
Find your secret hiding place, even you did not know existed
Find the evil within.

Find that inner evil unique to only you
That part of you that reveals what you are capable of
Face what those capabilities are and then you will know fear
Because fear is knowing what you could do and praying you have the strength not to

I like this line: when you are afraid it is palpable in the air. When I was little I fell from a cliff I was climbing...into the water but first I hit my knee badly on the edge. I remember the pain to this day. I had no fear of heights before that day but afterwards I did exactly the same things I'd always done and found I had become intensely afraid, not necessarily of heights but of not feeling safe and secure. I could hang thousands of feet in midair and not be afraid if I felt safe ...something inside me changed. These words you wrote ring true.

To face your fears you must face your demons. No one but ourselves knows what we are truly capable of.
    Great write
