Often times
I have stood
Alone…
Upon the battlefield
A broken plain called life
Reaching toward the western horizon
Unsure
Tentatively looking backwards
Aghast at my own steps
Frozen
Afraid to proceed further
Knowing time rushes onward
In the stillness
Of each such moment
I have found some wisdom
On occasion
When diligently applied
My course is renewed
Over time
My steps no longer
Appear horrid
Instead
They are seen as true
Gestures of determination
With each stride
I rejoice internally
Having heard encouragement
Though couched
In the growl of a cougar
Fear subsides
Brothers
In friendship
In spirit
Niaish Na Brother
May the remaining years
Restore unto you
That which you have sown into
The lives of others
Author notes
Mike, thanks for being a part of a small cadre called family. That even at times of discord, still functions while awaiting the next turning of the wheel of life.
