Paradoxical Politics

We boast superiority with a devilish grin
as Uncle Sam runs out of dollars and
his collection of food stamps begin.

Unemployment rates skyrocket,
while financial titan's yell
"outsource, outsource!",
dead-broke stockbrokers are
crying so loud their voices
are hoarse.

We spend billions on brute
force attempts in foreign
legions, while little
Susie down the block
gets bruised and beaten.

My country taxes me
for a false sense of
"social" security, because
by the time I'm seventy,
the only thing I'll be collecting
is financial obscurity.

Conservative politicians with
their ties too tight, preach
about the sanctity of marriage,
while they cheat on their wife.
I turned off the news while
watching the passing of
Prop 8, only to find
a reality show, where
you can marry a stranger....
...as long as you're straight.

I really powerful write. You have many strongly stated messages in here, which hit the readers hard as they go along. I also really liked how you took the prompt to heart, and wrote a piece that went along with a similar theme and poetic-tone as "A Paradox Of Our Time".

Loved your usage of eternal rhyme in some places, along consonance/alliteration. The contradictions and comparisons between two things, such as making billions VS Susie, was also a very strong tool in getting your point and moral across.

Thank-you for this piece and your insight and wisdom and opinions. Wonderfully written!

    Thanks for the entry,
    Ryan.

All to true, you have penned it as it is.We elect them
in the hope that what they promise will be done.
As usual excuses excuses etc etc. They are all Don Quixote's
rushing around (on tax payers expenses) tilting at useless windmills
To retire with bulging pockets. While all we have are moths in ours
    Good write

I think 'tis a fine write, indeed. You have expressed your thoughts quite well with a rye sense of humor, to boot. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

this reminded me of a brother ali song: uncle sam god damn.
its an alright song, he has much better
    anyways, still.. yeah.
i think it's actually college students fault for not being politically active.

  • loved it:)

it was honest and real. politics has become so corrupted that hypocracies are everywhere, but it has become the norm, so no one says anything. i think it is great that you point out our flaws instead of trying to make it seem like everything's perfect, like i've seen lots of times. absolutely amazing

    Sad but true...loved the poem.

Not being up on politics I don't have the foggiest idea what proposition 8 is, but going to goggle it.

I don't watch TV, so I don't get the whole reality show craze, I think it's all very idiotic.
