Through the darkness and the shadows
it chases me
an undying panic grips at my chest
holding on and never letting go
shadows chase me, never catching up
my heart rings inside it’s cast
willing myself to keep going, always running
never turning back
eyes fixed on the light at the end of the tunnel
hoping to reach it before it catches me
the darkness’s eyes watch me, taunt me
the ground thrusts out a foot, tripping me
I feel it’s hot breath upon my neck
Smell the disgusting smell of a thousand dead children
Hunted down and snatched away for their purity
Why is it after me?
Innocence I have not
Beauty is but a distant dream
It’s claws wrap themselves around my arm
Carefully, as if not to harm me
It’s next meal
As I turn my head to face my hunter, I awake
Another sleep, another nightmare
