I felt that familiar tremor as you walked out that door
that intense sense of loss,
even though I knew I'd see you again soon.
Each moment you were away I began to count the heartbeats
one
two
forty-seven
nine hundred
all of them blending together until the truth struck me on the head.
I'm in love with you
its visceral,
total
and it's taking over my every breath.
There's no reason,
you drive me crazy with your incessant juvenile behaviour
and your one-sided demands
but something in the tilt of your chin
and the noise you make when you're sorry
melted the icy guardian surrounding my heart
and you came skipping in and stole it.
