When a child is very young,
he’s taught “that colour’s blue.”
It may not look the same to him,
as it does , perceived by you.
It’s also true of each word or phrase, that we would often use,
the conception may not be the same, which ever words we choose.
Sometimes at the behest of fashion, meanings are reversed,
“gay” that once meant “happy” now means something quite perverse.
“Wicked” which once meant “bad” now means everything is “great,”
and “cute” which once meant “cunning” at one time of day
now means pretty, in a diminutive kind of way.
“Cool” once referred to temperature is now a cliched word,
it can be used for anything, which strikes me as absurd.
Change can be acceptable, in much smaller amounts,
but with change for change sake conception really counts.

Dear poet: What a well done poem,
and I agree with a lot of what you say here; you've captured the theme of the contest most excellently! Some of your rhythm felt a little off balence, but that is just a little thing
Well done!!!!
My best,
Zach Estel. -

Somehow ...
I think what you really meant is "perception", not "conception". In any case, you seem to have handled this quite well. I can't say that I agree with everything, but all in all, you've managed deftly and with aplomb.

Many thanks for your comments on"Conception" which means to "form an
idea in the mind" in my Oxford dictionary but what's in a name, sorry you can't agree with everything, but then you can't please everybody, must go on your patch again sometime.......Best Wishes.......George

Very well written work. Rhyme was good, content was understandable. I remember how words have changed in my short life.

I enjoyed this so much. Brought back so many memories.

Great write and provokes a lot of thought. I am reminded of when I was in eighth grade and it was the first time I had heard of the word wicked. It's so strange how over the years, the meaning of the words change. It also makes me think of how some words have gone out of style since the past, such as swell which was used as another way of saying "great" or "cool". It makes me wonder what kinds of words will be thought of in the future. Anyway, thanks for sharing and best of luck in the contest.
