His eyes were weathered from each storm
The depths of his mind had been torn
The sway of the waves took their form
For on a vessel he was born
His father a wealthy trader
Kept them on deck until later
'Til their home had an invader
That turned his life into traitor
So a black flag flew at the mast
Captains came and left just as fast
The boy seemed doomed to come in last
For he only slaved in the past
He learned of maps and finding course
He wrote until his pen was hoarse
His lessons gave him no remorse
And found a new life to endorse
He was content to stay at sea
But found how to set his soul free
As every heart is meant to be
He wrote of all he learned to see
So he sailed on exotic trails
And wrote the most fantastic tales
But the breeze would blow in new sails
Destiny's path always prevails
He saw a ship that passed the test
And felt a pounding in his chest
He would captain her to the west
And so it was his final quest
It was ironic in his lore
He wrote about a distant shore
And now through fate forevermore
He rode the Salty Eleanor
