A last behest
My soul mate rests peacefully in my arms as we await the birth of the new dawn.
The outcrop we rest upon overlooks her paradise on earth.
Below us to the left stretches an ancient forest of pine trees as far as the eye can see, a forest vastly rich in wildlife.
To the right, endless miles of virgin grassland that stand as tall as a man’s shoulder, running between them is a river, their lifeblood if you like; a thing of great beauty and many moods.
When sunlight touches her surface she dresses to impress, her water sparkles in the early morning light, eddy’s dance and swirl and Salmon leap high, showing her vast richness.
Sitting here her breathing is soft and steady, so soft that I press my ear against her breast to listen. Together we await the dawn and the rising of the sun.
It rises, and on clearing the horizon her eyes flicker open.
The first rays of sunlight highlight her rich copper hair, burnishing it, turning it to gold.
God she is so beautiful.
She utters no protest as I wrap an arm around her, and gently raise her that she has a better view, turning her face towards me she kisses my cheek and lovingly squeezes my hand.
Of a sudden I am overwhelmed as realisation becomes a reality, the reality that as one light becomes brighter another will wane, and soon will go out forever.
The beautiful blue eyes will see no more the beauty that surrounds us.
Close to where we rest a familiar shape comes into view and she smiles, her lips move but no sound comes forth.
Close by, stands a king come to pay homage.
He snorts gently and lowers his head.
The magnificent spread of antlers that crown his royal head are lowered towards her at half mast.
She raises a hand in acknowledgment and sighs; it is a long drawn out sigh, and now there is only silence.
The sun has cleared the horizon, and the valley below is shown in all its glory, and although her blue eyes are wide they see nothing.
Does it make sense?

Very Poignant...
I love this. Your poem's imagery is incredibly beautiful, although It's the saddest piece I've seen all week. Taking us back to the days of old, with all the stunning gifts of nature in tow, as if they're standing guard over your lovely, lost love. Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing, I'm wishing you all the best.
Peace,
Cyn
