Beliefs

1. Simply, what is your religion/religious beliefs?

Atheism

2. Do you feel comfortable with this belief or believe you should walk a different path? If you feel your path should be elsewhere, where do you feel you would be most comfortable?

This is my chosen path, and am entirely comfortable in this belief, or lack of.

3. Describe in a short paragraph what you feel is the difference between religion and spirituality.

Spirituality is sometimes seperate from religion. In essence, you don't need to be of any specific religion to practice spirituality, such as meditation, soul searching, meaning, etc. Within each religion is a set of spiritual guidelines that go hand in hand with that religion.  There can be a difference simply because some spiritual beliefs stand by themselves, and others can not be comprehended without their counterpart, religion.

4. How do you feel about religious intolerance? Is there only one set of beliefs that should exist; or do you accept that each individual is entitled to their own beliefs? Moreso, would you accept that person into your life even with a different view?

As an atheist, I'm usually an outsider looking in. I know what it is like to have views shoved down your throat, So I wouldn't do that to anyone.  Every individual must decide for themselves what to believe in, if they accept guidance in choosing, so be it.  All my friends are Christians or agnostic, they accept me, and I accept them. There is no barrier between us because our friendships are based on everything but religion.

5. I would like for you to quote me one religious/spiritual quote (does not have to be biblical) and interpret it into your own thoughts.

"An eye for an eye, A tooth for a tooth" - Hammurabi's Code
The first known set of written laws. More so, repeated in the Bible - Mathew 5:38.  Today it is still practiced in some Muslim cultures, as well as in certain aspects of U.S. law, such as death penalty cases, and I am sure in many other cultures.  I believe this law is far too old, primal, to be implemented in today's societies.  We have come so far technologically, logically, mentally, and gained no ground through means of religion and spirituality because we continue to live in the shadows of the past.

I like how you state that some beliefs of spirituality can stand on their own. This is well worded and actually provokes thought. Nice.

Your response to 4 is excellent. I love the last line about friendships without barriers because those friendships are based on everything but.

Thank you for taking the time to help me. Please leave your entry in a bit so that I have time to compile my thesis.
