Blessed Curse

Sixteen and pregnant,
every girl's worst fear.
A cloud of doom over my head,
a shadow to follow my every move.

I was a wild child,
a rambunctious sort.
An alcoholic by fourteen,
that's not counting the drugs.

So I guess its only fitting,
that I was sixteen and pregnant.

Many would call it a curse,
and perhaps I did at first.
But it was really a blessing
hidden well in disguise.

God knew what I needed,
for my life to be saved.
He entrusted to me a child,
a great responsibility.

I was born to be a mom,
I found my calling in life.
I straightened myself up,
and lived my life for her.

I finished school,
finished college,
established a career,
and built a life.

Some call it a curse,
I say its a blessed curse.

I know all too well this blessed curse of which you speak... Granted, I waited until I was 30, but really, I don't think it's any easier! Thank you for this touching entry, and all the best to you in the future...

i really like this poem! I always wonder if certain actions cause great change in our lives, or defining moments really. This defining moment for you seems to have turned your life around, and i'm glad to hear that!

"I was born to be a mom, I found my calling in life." I think that line is soooo true for so many people. Some of us are born to be great mothers and fathers, while other's aren't. I'm glad to hear you were.

    Good stuff!
