you are
a stone angel
sustained by eating
red hearts
warm blood seeps
slowly down from
your feeding mouth
moving through porous
subterranean levels
of your hard body
cold white stone
blushes pink
and for just the blink
of an old man’s eye
you are almost human

Intresting piece,
i enjoyed reading this, thank you and good luck -
I am left wondering where oyu would have come up with this idea. Perhaps it is something I am not aware of. Stone Angels that produce life from hearts while blood seeps down their mouths. It sounds gory and unnatural act for an Angel. One I suppose has to look a little deeper to see the meaning behind the words, but still it gives an angel a different look in my eyes. Beautifully written with a very deep and dark feel to it. I wish you the very best in the ocntest and thanks for the read.

The contrast in this gave me a jolt of pain--right in the heart. Found the white stone turning pink a bit gruesome this late at night.

John
The chief operating word here is "ALMOST"!
Once burnt, twice shy!
Good stuff, John!

Stone angels roam free eating hearts and when you're an old man...you remember. -c

Wow... i got such an image from this. Did you fall on the teeth of a statue or something? Where did that picture come from and I find it facinating that you used the term angel in expressing this rather dark image. Intriguing write. As usual I am not disappointed.

I saw the angel in the marble and I carved until I set her free' (Michelangelo).
'you are

This introduction painted glorious mental pictures with brushings of powerfully sinister connotations. Just delicious my friend!

I'd love to know which sculpture you envisioned here - was it Zenobia in Chains? I like the idea of the white marble being tinged to a flesh colour by blood. Ah, the strange sisterhood of women artists in Rome. Henry James didn't like them either, the flock were as bad as the Frogpondians to him!
Best of luck in the contest John - this is a poem of great imagery and leaves me more than a little uneasy!
