The Princess

She wants to run away with the forbidden one,
the strange man with the dark cloak
and even darker tongue,
the one who howls at the moon.

His teeth shine oh-so bright; they remind her of the stars.
His lips, oh-so red, stain like bloodshed upon her skin.
What do they matter, all his quiet, brooding secrets?
He loves her, he tells her everyday.

Still, her companions hover around her,
flittering about like fruit flies, planting
seeds of doubt to sprout within her ears.

His vows, like carnivorous embers,
overwhelm them every evening,
and makes her feel brand new again;
and so, he makes her pure.

She runs away with the forbidden one,
right back to his magnificent palace,
where his bright teeth and scarlet lips
devour her with the ferocity of a wolf.
