Jackrabbits

My heart
It quivers and shakes
In her presence.
Perhaps in fear, or
Something not known to me
But it screams, and leaps
Frantic
Like it needs to
Run away.
It is a startled fawn
Falling
Onto its weak knees at
Her stare
Her open eyes
My heart senses danger.

Now.
Your heart.
I wonder
Does it shiver and pound
When you hold her?
When you
Kiss her?
Is it a nuclear bomb
Seconds away from detonation?
Does it thump
Hard
In your chest
Like a jackrabbit?
Your heart doesn't notice at all.

Author notes

First poem in a long time. I know it's not the best, but hope you like it. Have you ever seen the person you love more than anything in the arms of someone who doesn't even care about them?
Yup. This is it.
Inspired by a line from a movie.
