We have been married for 45 years.
There has been many ups and downs.
And there will be more I’m sure.
But I have learned to listen to her.
I’m not always right.
It’s a hard thing to learn, but necessary .
There are TWO of you now.
She has learned the same.
I was a Green Beret, and use to my way.
She learned to wait till I got through raving,
and later we would discuss.
All this time, everywhere we go we hold hands,
(if I let go , she shops.) Didn’t take me long
to learn that.
But all in all, I wish you a life together as
long and as wonderful as ours.
And may GOD bless you and keep you.

Great write, mate. This is real and full of life. I like how you said....(if I let go , she shops.) Didn’t take me long to learn that. That was really funny. In all of this you showed that you are both just human beings like everyone else and you have your moments, just like everyone else, but you also showed that you treasured every moment that you are and will be together. That is priceless and such a wonderful thought. I guess it must have been hard for you to listen considering where you had been, what you had done and experienced, and all that, and hard for her because she was not use to that. I have heard this many times before from many who served in Vietnam. It took a long time to shake off that part of your life while still remembering. An excellent tribute to your darling wife who you love so much. Thank oyu so much for sharing this delightful piece and I wish you the very very best in the contest, although I know you will do very well indeed.

A wonderful wish for the special couple...
With a lovely touch of humour.
Nicely done.

Marriage does require a great deal of give and take between each other. It is very sweet that you still hold hands, and I love the humor added here. This is a beautiful poem for the contest, and it provides some real jewels of wisdom for the young couple. Nice! Blessings, Patty

It has lasted 45 years, and only because of her. Pride gets in a mans way and hides right from wrong.

Sometimes the old pride thing plays a part with us women folk too! LOL
