Father, where are you?

Searching for your face,
listening for your name,
but I can never find a trace.

You abanoned me,
You walked away,
Away from your responsibilty,
Your child, your flesh and your blood.

I have your skin,
I have your hair,
I have your nose,
But you vanished into thin air.

Mother, where is my father?
Mother, why did he leave you?
Mother, what did he do wrong?
I asked as a child and I never recieved answers.

Half of my life is missing,
half of my family doesn't exsist.
A lost history,
A never ending painfull mystery.

Father, I don't know where you are,
are you alive or are you dead?
are you close or are you far?
But meeting you would be something I would dread.

Your story, my mystery,
gaining answers, could either make me whole,
or destroy me.

Author notes

This is about obviously not ever knowing my dad. I quickly wrote this and its not very good, but whatever i write is helpfull to me anyway. Soon I will post some poems that aren't as literal and without lots of simple words. Anyone who knows what its like to have never known a parent, I would love to know your thoughts, unfortunatly I don't really know anyone who has a parent missing from their life (never actually knowing one).

What did you think

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

I thought this was very good and you wrote it as if it were a child speaking. you could feel it and sense it. It is a question that holds a lot of sadness for many...for others, curiosity. There are many many reeason why a parent may disappear from a childs life and sometimes, just sometimes, it is not by choice. I think this piece spells out just what goes through a childs mind and still continues well into their adult hood. Very well done indeed and keep up the great writing.
