Hello Halloween

Hello Halloween, another year has come between
You & I & all of the things that we have both seen.
The plastic fantastic & the terribly drastic
With everything in-between that's now seen as past it
Has become the raison d'être for those still in credit.
But I nostalgically rhyme of a time when chips were
Served with fish & not intrinsically part of machines
That answer my phone, order goods & infect my dreams.
Oh, how I long for those days of red phone call-boxes
When massive shopping centres were still verdant copses
& just crossing the road was not dicing with death.
Yes, it was so much less complex in those days of yore
& compared to today it must have all been a bore!
Just how did we survive all those winters before?
So, goodbye Halloween, it's been fun on the scene
& I'll see you again & again I'll vent spleen.

Very fun rhyme scheme! Halloween is actually the only holiday that I think gets better with time, though!

I'm Celtic in descent & this time of the year is always a bit spooky for me. Nos Calan Gaeaf was the New Year.

ah, it can be quite festive but I agree about all the merchandizing that has taken over; how few make their own masks and costumes anymore like they did in days of yore. Its even come to the Black Forest a bit now (wasn't here at all 10 years ago, and they don't really need it what with their ultra Fasching fest in February with the wooden masks.)

Oh yeah, I forgot about trick or treating...

I know a few tricks with a piece of 4x2.

Another year marker approaches, another sign of time's passing. They run together faster, it seems, and we long for the slower pace of memory. Good poem here. Yes, I remember when chips were edible and a telephone was fixed to a building. It's easier now to stay in touch, but do we say anything when we communicate?

Thanks. Yes, it's nostalgia time yet again. Also proves I can rhyme after all! I remember when phones had curly leads & actually had a bell ring! lol.

      Communication is over-rated anyway.
