souls left at the train station

the man with no shoes
and a stray dog.

he said he wasn't a holy man anymore
that he'd lost the pages from his bible
and the warmth from
his heart.

i asked him
if he remembered that holocaust film
where they tell the children to pack all their belongings
and then left all their suitcases
on the platform

and he told me
he hadnt.

i just sighed as;

mothers stop their children from
stroking the dog and their eyes
from gazing

into reality.

This is very well written. So deep and meaningfull. How many of us choose not to look at reality? Very good.

Wow your poem weighs heavy, a brilliant write, and aptly titled as well. You really touched on something deep, especially with the last stanza, which indeed pulls the whole penning together. This is one to be proud of.

    Exceptional

Good one. Free and complete. The most significant poem I've read on this site so far. I dunno, poetry is tough.

    It's amazing

(not just the words you wrote here, but the truth behind them.)

I will not refrain from looking straight into the eyes of reality. I will not turn away in fear or dismay, and, apparently, neither will you.

In that we are, maybe, a little bit unusual, but why should that stop us? Why would we ever think of doing otherwise?

This line comes from a poem I wrote long ago, but it still holds true for me (and, I think, for you) to this day:

"Let me see past the illusion
    of what appears to be."

    I loved that stanza.
    It's so interesting.

And I also love the last two lines.

This whole thing is wonderful. It's so simple, and so interesting, and so deep and thoughtful.
    I love it.
