The Stillness Of The Evening

Missing image

The stillness of the evening casts a sheen upon the lake
reflections of a sunset are two-fold,
sit a while and hold your breath, the view is yours to take
it’s captured in your heart for you to hold.

A skein of geese fly overhead, their calls disturb the peace
but soon they pass and everything is still,
the chatter in the tree tops by the roosting birds will cease
and acrobatic bats provide a thrill.

As nature’s living canvas is re-painted one last time
the first of many stars pin point the sky,
the evening sun retreats before the moon begins it’s climb;
a hunting owl lets out an eerie cry.

It’s time to leave this magic place, retrace your footsteps home,
the night time is the time for stunning dreams,
with images inside your head, you’ll have no need to roam
your path illuminated by moon beams.

Take this picture with you as you finally dim the light,
now may your troubles disappear … I’ll bid you all, “Good night”.

It's such a short time, that time of day between day and dusk but one of the most stunning. Your words capture it so well.

just loved the poem that reflected that wonderful picture perfectly Sue. Me, I think I'd have got a fishing rod out for an hour into the darkness. Peace and tranquility, the picture and poem said it all..good luck in the comp...Dan

Many thanks Lu, with honey and custard we just need the lightest of sponge puddings with just a hint of ginger
      I appreciate your comment.

I love it when the poem is more beautiful than the picture provided. I know Jeff will love this because of the "extralongameter"

    Beautiful

both your poem and the picture. Your words flow as smoothly as the reflected clouds in the lake surface. A picture to dream about indeed.

    BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

It is scenes such as these which are capable of bringing feelings of calm and serenity to ones stressed out mind. All one has to do is to stay still, open their mind and heart and let the wonders take over.

Excellent piece of rhyming with great flow, and your imagery is both perfect for the picture/prompt and vividly written.
