I'm made of x's, slashes (strokes),
depends on where you're from;
Americans or other blokes
inspect the Tum-ta-Tum.
An asterisk shows up sometimes
at ends of lines to show
a pause that's after "girlie" rhymes;
I sort of know the flow.
Admitting close examination
of present ballad meter;
feet count, in my determination
reveals a "valid cheater".
Although to rhyme is not the norm,
the cadence is a treat;
no matter which notation form,
I analyze the beat.

For a contest: Stump Me
Since joining AP, I have been learning about forms, meter and rhyme. The scansion of the above poem is:
x/x/x/x/
x/x/x/
x/x/x/x/
x/x/x/
with the exception of the third "valid cheater" stanza, which is:
x/x/x/x/x*
x/x/x/x*
x/x/x/x/x*
x/x/x/x*
I think! The AP classes are well worth taking and you get points throughout and shiny blue trophies upon completion.

I loved reading this. I have never seen this before in any type of writing. Well done my friend! -
Well done! I too am learning these things for the first time, little by little.
