Man and nature
Become as one,
Each the purveyor
Each the usurper,
Gather together as one
Nocturnal,
Roots entwined
In time,
Eternal,
Dust to dust
Kindred kernel,
Hearth entrusted
Earthen,
Vernal.
Fertile food
Mortalities end,
Bark and branch
Gray stone’s friend,
Time’s crucible of
Growth and decay,
Green tops kissing
Wind blown wool,
And cotton shoes
Whither and fray.
Under roots
Where the forgotten lay,
And all too soon
At time’s cold hand,
We shall rest below
With rooted bands,
Caressing brow and leg,
Rendering each of us
Back to dust.
