Awkward-Angle Sunset

Hey.

The other day I was at that lake
The one we sit at sometimes
When you come over
With the awkward-angle sunset
And all the lily pads

And something sort of hit me
I swear, I almost fell in
It was one of those epiphanies
I had a few, actually

I realized you have green eyes
These really pretty ones
That taken in light and give off life

When we're talking, I'm happy
I don't smile that much
Around most people, honestly

When we talk close to each other
And I sorta hit you really light
I feel so safe, and warm
Like you're my sunny, smiling rock
Always there for me

I figured out that we used to hang out a ton
Every weekend, if not more
And now it's been
More than a month since the last time
Because you're so often on dates with
That really smart, pretty girl
And she makes you so happy
And that makes me smile
But also sorta breaks me down
Because I miss you

So most nights before I go to sleep
Cause I go to sleep earlier than you
I say good night and that I love you
Well, I really always meant it
But since that day at the lake
I know I meant it in so many more ways than one

And since I tell you near everything I feel
I just thought
I should let you know
And say thanks.

And if we start to drift
To be less close than before
I'll remember those moments
We spent together, here
And I'll smile.

I do hope you like it. I realized after the poem was already finished that maybe this contest was meant for love that was requited, but I hope this is okay anyway.

Thanks for inspiring me, I've really wanted to say a ton of that.
