At present I still have this awful ‘flu.
My Doctor says there’s nothing I can do
but let it run its course and see it through.
“A few more weeks and you should feel like new”..
It goes away but then comes back again
The worst part is this fuzziness of brain -
a lethargy where everything’s a strain
and one can’t concentrate or think in train.
Perhaps some may have noticed, recently,
I haven’t often visited AP
or commented or posted poetry
for which I hope, my friends will pardon me.
I’m not quite sure which sort of ‘flu I’ve got
but reckon it’s the worst one of the lot!
Hugh Wyles, October 26th.2009.
Author notes
I’ve had it now for five whole weeks on end
and soon it’s going to drive me round the bend.
Yes! Five whole weeks! Whoever would have thought it?
At least I'm blest that Edna hasn't caught it !
Of all the ‘flues I’ve had, this is the worst
with coughing, sneezing and a constant thirst.
But I’m aware, through all my misery,
that other folk are far worse off than me.

Best wishes
When influenza lays one low
the world becomes a vale of woe,
where sunshine cannot pierce a beam
and weary eyes have lost their gleam.
Our every grief is like this time,
when reason can't be made to rhyme,
except with dark and darker thoughts,
the "if"s, and "should"s and "better not"s.
My dear, let's look up through the haze
and set our minds on better days.

Dear Babe, Heath and I know how ill you have been, I'm glad the Doctor has put you onto stronger antibiotics and I hope Edna's sore throat doesn't get any worse.
Get well soon Dear
Hugh
Love Hine and Heath.XOXOXO

Sorry to hear you still ill

Hope you feel better soon and send that flu to the moon

-
Dear Hugh,
Is it possible to get two strains of flu, one right after the other? That might explain why your symptoms are the same even though the original flu should be through and you should be feeling good as new!
Don't forget Dr. Schulz and his herbal 'shots'
and his toll-free number
(1-800-HERB-DOC)
for a free patient handbook!
PLEASE GET WELL SOON!!!
Love and Hugs,
♥ Maureen

Dear Maureen,
I went to my doctor today,
he said: "You ARE in a bad way.
This new antibiotic
will work like a rocket
and i'm sure you will soon be OK."
Then he said "Take this bottle away.
Two pills now and then one every day."
There are ten more to take -
now I can't stay awake
'coz I feel quite lightheaded and fey.
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

Sorry to hear you are still fighting this monster of a flu bug. Brain fog is no fun but even writing under duress you rhyme and rhythm supass the best.

Sending tons of pixie dust your way for speedy healing and lots of good thoughts too.

speedy recovery
It's as enjoyable as it is fun to read this structured easy flowing poem
seems like everyone is at wonder from this new dilemma of nature
and if one is a poet one must write i say.
You sir have made a fine entry to the topic.
with due respect

As you said it is a blessing that Edna your wife has so far escaped it let us pray she continues to do so. Your brain may be fuzzy but when it comes to poetry you still write
exceedingly good verse, and yes you have been missed here on AP.
Five weeks of feeling so awful must drain all motivation and inspiration so I do hope that you can shake it off once and for all and soon.

-
Dear Hugh---if you are open to natural supplements
a tiny golden capsule of Oil of Oregano is a killer
for all sorts of viruses. Take care, get rest!
Know that we all love you and wish you a faster recovery
than you have experienced so far!

FIVE weeks!
Here we have the dreaded flu
and on the week-end a preteen
died in hospital. Likely you
are immune to the nasty, seen
--or so I'm told, only among
patients who are very young.
But thus you are allowed to be
IMpatient as you like, like me.
It seems a blessing being old
I'm calling mine just a cold.
Sleep a lot, with Kleenex kept
with me for company as I slept.
My son will tell me if I snore
as I stretch to sleep some more.
But FIVE weeks! Please NO! You
still write presentable verse;
I can attempt at least to do
as much. Yawnnn! shiver, nurse
this aberration to Timbuktoo!
Get thee well, this is too rough
I'm sure you've suffered enough!
Terry

Dear Hugh, it's true, 'twixt you and me
I wish that flu would turn and flee.

-
Your bout with the flu sounds quite awful, Hugh
I pray you'll be well soon. But at least you can still let out a good rhyme, so I think you'll live
Love and
Dee

Get well soon Hugh
Dear Hugh,
it's awful when one gets the dreaded flu
and you don't know what you can do!
The awful runny nose that you can't stop
it will surely keep you on the hop.
A hot toddy may be the cure to do the trick
and don't drink too much or you'll be sick.
Although we know some folks are worse off
it doesn't help when all you do is sneeze and cough
and your brain feels as though it's fried
and you wish that you'd curled up and died
and mind is dull no thoughts come through
I hope you get better soon, dear Hugh.
And write the poems I love to read so much
so let Edna help you get well with her gentle touch.
I know the feeling as since my OP everything has gone wrong
and now to top it off I had an allergic reaction to the perm solution
since last Thursday that has left me looking like a white poodle.
My Hairdresser couldn't set and dry it as I had to rush to the Doctors
and hopefully it will be done before I go out on Wednesday
or else some funny stares I'll get from all the Bingo ladies.
Love and hugs Bea

A five week flu? Never heard of it lasting so long.
Egads, I'm sorry Hugh. I hope you get better soon. You are a better man than I am. When I am sick, I am convinced that no one is more ill than I am.
