Lowlife who scour the streets at night,
bring our world a loathsome blight.
They run amuck and cause affray
and then lay low by light of day.
When darkness falls they don disguise
to mug, rob, rape and vandalise.
With morals worse than alley cats,
they victimise like vicious rats.
When they are caught they cry to mum
“it weren’t me, honest, I ain’t the one,
you go to court and put ‘em straight,
you tell ‘em I was home by eight.”
“I got no dosh to pay a fine,
I gotta save it for a line,
can’t be without me smokes and cans
they can’t shaft me … cos I got plans!
“Dead up straight, I’m bein’ screwed,
it must’a’ been some ovver dude,
ain’t gonna rot in no prison cell,
sod the cops, they can go to hell”
Lowlife who prowl our streets at night
should be blown up with dynamite.

I nearly spit my water across the room at the last line. This really reminded me of Charlie Daniel's "Simple Man," an anti-liberal anthem from America's conservative South. (Except, of course, Daniel's is a nutjob.)
I think anyone can sympathize with your message. As a CJ student I can tell you that a lot of factors go into crime and the creating or continuing of criminal organizations and environments, but of course none of that really reflects the costs of crime in loss to victims.
As far as the poetical quality of the writing here goes, I have always enjoyed the straight-forward nature of you poems; they are easily accessible as to meaning and lack any semblance of the garish or spurious. There is also a welcome sincerity that communicates a desire to see the problem dealt with in a significant way, even without turning to demolitions supplies.
Well done here, glad I came along. :-)

Harsh words from such a lovely creature. 100% correct, though. It never fails to infuriate when some mindless reprobate takes advantage of honest people.
It's good to read one of yours again. Keep writing, m'lady!

After it is stuck up their rear end, my dear friend!
We have our share of lowlife across the pond, as well - who have been throwing rocks at the windows of out houses and even shot a hole through the drivers window of my car that went through the passenger door of my car - just a week weeks ago just 2 weeks after it came home from the body shop after a hit and run at the supermarket. I hate to say it as this may sound like me Mum and Dad BUT I think all of the violent video games and rap music and videos that these kids play with, listen to, and see - just may be a contributing factor to the way that they think that they can get away with anything, at all. They have NO RESPECT for anyone else's property, etc. - as they may have been spoiled from always getting their own way and what they wanted too easily - without fear of a good ass whipping - which quite frankly - was the way that I was disciplined in my day when I went astray and I think I turned out OK. In my day we listened to music that had words with meaning and that more often than not sang of a world of peace and love that unfortunately all these years later seems to be more at war with itself - especially in the darkness of night - than ever before - as far as I can see.
Love & Peace is the way to go - as you and I both know. It's a sad, sad situation, indeed - that poems like the one that you so eloquently wrote are so true - when everyone should know better.
Earl.

CCTV now omnipresent
between the honest citizen
and vandal, rascal, most unpleasant,
should distinguis - yes, but then
while former shoots some helpless pheasant
the latter's blamed time and again.
White collar crime is just as bad
as that uneducated cad
flings in the face of law and land
through over-active hormone gland.
Necessity's invention's mum
so say some tumbril tied, though mum.

It really is a shame that low lives roam the streets and do not have the same sense of honour as onw would expect. you wrote this with the true skills of a true poet.... I ove the flow and the over all feel of the poem but it is a shame that it had to be written, but it is a very important poem that really needed to be written.

"it must’a’ been some ovver dude..."
A serious subject addressed with a dash of humour. It's a pleasure to read your clever well written poem.
