Just like Scrooge I remember the years
they fly through my mind like beautiful birds.
Enchanted memories of laughter and fun
family traditions always re-run.
Happy repetitions no need for a change
the food and the presents and hilarious games.
Closing my eyes the pictures come alive
a family busy as bees in a hive.
As children we hunted and rummaged for gifts
but Mom was too clever, she had plenty of tricks.
I remember the tree, the smell of the pine
and Christmas cards all strung up in a line.
Mom’s fresh baking would waft through the house
naughty children crept in to steal it quiet as a mouse.
With hands that were freezing and toes turned to ice
we'd trudge from shop to shop for the right price.
Money was short and family many
so Mom had to watch every single penny.
A home full of music, that’s no real surprise
our carol singing would bring tears to your eyes.
Then when all was quiet we would go off to our bed
and dream of Father Christmas, but it was Dad instead.
Next morning we’d wake early, finding presents galore
then go off to church, Our Saviour, baby Jesus to adore.
Such happy memories I have of the past
a wonderful treasure that forever will last.
Now history is repeated each and every year
with my own children who to me are so dear.
So if you are lonely and sad at this time
come visit my home and live out this rhyme.

This sounds like the Christmas we have. Family, friends, sometimes a couple of strays, lol. We all join in and have a great time. This really brought back wonderful memories. Excellent poem.

Christmas, Holiday Memories in general, oh the stories, the laughter, even if intermingled with tears, this poems takes the commercialism right out of Christmas!
