I am not the modern professional woman.
I am not satisfied with doing well in school,
Getting a job, performing my duties on time
And making my boss happy.
That satisfies many women,
But it does not satisfy me.
I want more than a job that
Takes up my life,
Drains my energies,
And never lets me live
A life of enjoyment.
I want that enjoyment.
I want to see more of life
Than what is available in a normal job.
Beauty.
Elegance.
Sweetness.
Fulfillment.
Freshness.
I want to see life as it passes me by.
And I want to be part of it.
I want to know what it is
To love one man all my life.
I want to spend my time caring for him
And for the life we will build.
I want to bear children,
And watch them grow and learn.
I want to enjoy the little mundane things
That come of keeping a house
And making it a home,
Like washing dishes,
Cooking meals,
Making the bed I sleep in with my husband,
And those that my children leave each morning,
Sleepy-eyed, and return to each night.
I am a modern woman, yes,
But I want traditional things.
I would be happier living with my family
In a cottage with no electric heat
And no modern amenities
Than in the perfect little townhouse
Living the hectic and technology-filled life of
The modern professional woman.

Author notes
I'm not criticizing the life of the modern professional woman, in whatever capacity she serves. If she enjoys it, then it is the right thing for her to do. I am not made of such mettle. I prefer the frustrations of a dishwasher that doesn't work or children who will not pick up after themselves to the issues that arise in a workplace.
