He might have produced only hostility.
It would be excused and even expected
After the awful hand life had dealt him
and all the times he had been rejected.
But pain can't change who we are inside.
That's a choice we each make all alone.
A lifetime is contained in every minute
And in the thoughts we reject or condone.
Beauty and talent always rise to the surface
No matter the circumstance or situation
like sculptures made out of old beer cans
or songs of hope rising from devastation.

Nice one!
Hey, Mark- long time, no read!
Good poem... I remember, when I was just starting to attend college, I took an art education class. At the same time, I had a cleaning job at Art Van Furniture. I ended up taking floor scraps and threw it together for a really neat art project, similar to the one in your picture. I think I called it, "From Death Comes Life" or something like that. It looked all mechanical and block-like, but then I had a fresh green twig from a tree coming out of it.
There's a verse somewhere in the Bible that talks about God giving us "beauty for ashes"- this poem kinda reminded me of that, too.
Nice work!

I love the message in your write for there is real truth in it and gives great tribute to this individual. Well done. -
All of us have gifts, different from anyone else. Some of us can create crafts as show in the picture rpompt for this contest; others can create oems throught their words and write of feelings and hope. Liked your take on this prompt and where it took you. Good rhythm, rhyme and imagery that you have shared with readers. Good luck.

Very Nice Mark
I love this tribute. And if it's directed towards someone you don't know, it's even better.

I used to work with this kid in the college library who would make me the coolest things from origami, using cigarette wrappers, leaves, foil, you name it. Wonderful penning, my Friend. And amen, on your final stanza. Good luck in the contest, Scribe.

I wonder what he/she is doing now. It would be interesting to find out if that creativity flourished. So many people get swallowed up by the need to make a living and never have the time to become the artist they might have been. My brother was a very creative writer when he was a kid, but life beat the hell out of him, and you know the ending of that story. His creativity was channeled into thinking up new lies to tell cops. He even pretended to be me once! He was a pain in the ass, but I miss him every day.
Hope you're doing well, dear friend.

What a great take on the prompt! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, one man's hangover, is another man's art. lol. I really liked this!

Well done. I enjoyed this poem. The rhyme is very well done. There is alot said about pain and loneliness in these lines.
Great job.
Mike
