Cutting through an ever-thickening fog
mounted on a dreary day
I squelched across the shallow bog
in hopes for guide-lights to appear,
or perhaps a vision of your sweet face.
At last a pallid light shone forth
ghostly shadows played across the smokey whispers,
floating like phantoms,
from under the marshy water's moss.
From the under,
seething forward,
a nebulous shape with empty eyes,
cold fish fingers,
clutching at bated breath
turning me to stone inside.
Something's rising,
something's sinking
pale as darkness,
never blinking.
Then distant call of nightingale,
awakening,
bringing forth realization
eyes stare back through dim fog and rain,
where Queen Mab prances forth in sickly form.
Dreams unpleasant gallop by
haunts of who listens deep
or not so much,
for because of their high feet
dancing through each at night
cannot they leave,
instead of haunting desperate travelers?
I just heard your voice,
it drifted down the blackened moor
like a translucent whisper,
barely there,
yet louder than thunder,
carried on the curtain's edge of Her entrancing song.
I just felt your arms,
wrapping around me
like a blanket in the cold night
a warm breeze kissing my soul,
clinging to the fingertips of Her desperate grasp.
I just saw your face,
oh so faint from the corner of her eye
lasting for just a moment
like a camera's flash.
When I paused to listen to you
again,
nothing more than a quiet hush
remained
and cruel Mab's laughter.
When I reached to meet your
embrace once more,
I grasped a handful of air
and faerie wings.
When I looked for your face,
once more in hollow,
mocking eyes,
it simply wasn't there.
Gone,
like the trails of smoke from a snuffed candle
so quickly to vanish into the void.
You are everywhere
and yet now you are nowhere
whisked away on dream's memory.
And when you are not here...
perchance to dream...to see you
through closed lids
where my dreams allow me a reprieve
from this world.
To escape this realm of flesh and bone
bound by distance and time,
where I am all too often forced to
exist without you.
And until my arms sweep you into me
once again...
I am haunted
By whispers
By memories
By ethereal caresses
and mocking creatures.
My heart sheds tears,
for I am haunted
lost amidst the bracken,
my options go back or venture forth
vanish from this blighted earth
and join you,
join Her,
in this nightly luminescent parade.

Lovely piece. Your imagery was ver well done and the feel of despondancy was overwhelming. Nice job.
