The Animals

Missing image

We can talk about the animals that live out in the wild
Fascinate the children with such stories that beguile
Tickle all their fancies with these wonders told in mirth
And let them see the beauty of this great and mighty earth

There’s Pandas, Bears, and Antelopes and Birds of every size
Elephants and Tigers that will brighten up their eyes
Show them Snakes and Wombats and the mighty Polar Bear
Let them see the beauty while the creatures are still there

The Mountain lions and Jaguars and Leopards roaming free
Monkeys and Orang tangs that live up in the trees
Tell the children about the whales that one day may not be
Because of man these giants will vanish from the open sea

Meerkats on the plains afar and jumpy Kangaroos
And Turtle Doves and all the love that they can show to you
Let them know about the Frogs, all creatures great and small
Let them see this life so free ‘fore its not there at all

Tell them all the stories of the creatures they may know
Of how they live together in this jungle we call home
How nature gives them what they need - providing every day
Let the children see it all before it slips away

    Superb Plus +

Aye, indeed! Man seems to want to pollute the entire planet both land and sea. Someday man's greed may kill us all. Thanks for sharing such an exquisite write on a controversial topic.

Thank you. It will be a sad day when life fades out due to mans doing. The animals are already telling us what is happening. If you watch you will see it so clearly.

Hopefully through exposure to the beauty of the earth, we can convince children that it's worth fighting to keep around. If one could simply get a glimpse of that which is being eradicated, how could they simply let it fall?

As far as the write goes, truly flawless, every word packs an individual punch, leaving the reader in a very contemplative state. Words of a peaceful evolution.

Thanks, mate. Every day, we are getting closer to losing some wonderful creature to extinction. It is shameful and so sad.

    ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

I was truly blessed to have had parents who taught me all of these things and much more. Yes, we must pass all on to the young people before all is gone. So much precious beauty around us everyday but we have forgotten how to see it.

Children thanks to TV can often recognize animals from far flung places but what many don't know is where the food they eat comes from and what part animals play in that. They don't know chicken lay eggs or cows produce milk or what the meat is on their plates.
My childhood home was pretty primitive no running water or electricity but I had the freedom on our beautiful English countryside and learned from an early age to recognize and love our native wild creatures; but my knowledge of the animals from other countries was from the circuses annual visit. Thank god at least that has been stopped.

A hundred years ago children living in towns and cities would know even less about the world around them than children today, at least they can see these things via TV and the internet.

I love watching the wild life documentaries but like most people dislike seeing the killing scenes but for most of them it is still survival of the fittest.

I have to go along with you, my friend. I love documentaries on animals. The only time I avoid them is when there is a lot of human contact involved. You sound like you have a great life being brought up free from all the city bustle. I grew up in the country also but now live on the fringe of both.

This piece just says it all, and in the greatest manner there is.
To allow the sharing of every animal we care for, know of and delight in finding that they still exist. remembering what pleasures we received in the learning of Earth Mothers children, all of them, and allowing our children, and their childrens children to keep remembering, and learning. One day we will all find that keeping safe everything that lives, is a need we we all have to take part in.
This is an excellent write my friend, just excellent.

Thank you, my friend. I think that there needs to be a lot more done to protect these wonderful friends of ours but some just can't see how much our lives depend on their survival. I love watching doco's about all animals and have counless books on them.

  • Bravo! And I couldn't agree more. There are so many that we have missed out on, many becauise we didn't know they existed by the time ikt was too late.
This is a heartfelt poem for us to at least make sure the children know about our world and its inhabitants.
    Flawless rhyme as always.

Thank you. You sit so quietly in the background, I hardly know you're there. But so am I. lol!!!!!!!!! We are slowly losing so many of these wonderful animals and it seems that there isn't enough being done to protect them.
