with orbs of gold on black
vestiges of thunderous nights
called out from woodlands spawned
garish shadows claw and wither
strangling moonlight mid trees
bracken glistens, frosted heather
crunching autumn displayed
obsidian reflects owls' eyes
fish run deep, waters clear
chanting comes from blue stones fallen
the time of death is nigh
hapless victims' incantations
ropes around bleeding necks
three times the death they must suffer
to reach the boggy doom
enfolding midnight waters come
their hell is not so far
two thousand years to be brought up
into the missing world
burnished black in desecration
sought the answers of Why?
it was the weight, the word because
it was of us required
Author notes
First it was said Stone henge was a place of human sacrifice, now they are saying a funerary center along with the Blue stone circles, much like Egypt's City of the Dead.
But they are still trying ti figure out the cruel, hung, chopped, bashed deaths of the bog people-- wonder if it was simply they broke taboo's or endangered their people in some way?

I love your word choices. "gossamer," "garish," "bracken," "obsidian," "boggy"... You have a wonderful sense of euphony and cacophany. This is a vivid and poignant poem.
I also love that "Why," is the only word with a capital letter... it makes it particularly resonant.

Nice Anne
Not too worried about it now. We'll find out everything later. But, it is very interesting. How is your book coming? I am stuck in editing. Just not motivated.
