I wonder for whom you are working,
With a list of enquiries so strong,
All poking and prying and firking
Into things I've kept secret life-long.
KGB?... No!, they're not that efficient!
(And the Stasi, thank goodness, is dead!)
CIA?.. No they're culture-deficient,
And they'd ask about base-ball instead!
Surete?... No, the logical genius
Of France would devise something tighter
(And on drink they'd be far less abstemious -
-At least so it seems to this writer!)
The British MIs ?... Oh no, never
Could they frame questions on "drool" and "sex"
And they work to rules laid down "for ever"
When Carolus Secundus was "rex"!
Who then? It is not Mossad, surely,
For today they're on leave for Shabbat!
Can it be it's your own idea, purely?
NO, you'll NEVER convince me of that!

Hilarious! Love it. Not what I asked for, but I think it's great. I might just be with the CIA, though; didn't you see the 2 baseball questions? Just kidding. I have a ton of conspiracy theories, too; that's why I don't use cell phones or modern cars because of all the computer chips and tracking devices.

Of course I saw them! But the CIA would surely not have confined themselves to a mere two!

Tight, bright, and excellent.

oh I see after the fact that this was in reply of a contest. It gives me a different feel and effect now. But I still think taken out of context it stands alone as a great poem. And would be interesting for conspiricists to read because I think you are right in your last line- it is all their own internal logic made up.

I really like this. I think it shows a lot of intelligence and that your depth goes beyond just the world of poetry- which would explain why you are a such a fantastic poet not only in technique but in content.
I also think it is a very fun poem, but I think the tone is a little too 'even' and could contribute more to the humor. I think this poem is capable of being hysterical if you wanted it to be- it could make us all roll over laughing rather than just chuckling.
You may not have intended the humor until the end but wanted the subdued reflection throughout with just a little smirk. That is great too.
I am just commenting as a reader not a poet! But I did enjoy this a LOT!
