Expressions of Auburn

Maybe it was the single table
Covered in orange tablecloth
At the diner, well dressed women
Cackling their delight in each other
Catfish and smothered steak over rice
Friday special
Iced tea glasses glowing red/gold in sunlight
Table cloth leaving with private party

LSU and Auburn, 6:30 Saturday night
ESPN two...
Told me the crew that called
The Florida game suspended
Tigers upended in bad calls
Sacking referees, sacking leaves
In plastic sack pumpkins
Decorating curb, brisk breeze
Chilled washed skies eyes
Scrubbed ice true blue
Comfort tingle exposed throat with
Orange bandanna tied Texas style
Gray haired troupe one table away
Lucille Ball wannabe betrayed at roots
Henna assisted, Halloween happy shirt
Pink hearts, yellow moons, green clover
Orange pumpkin earrings
Budweiser sign, clock, exit glow
Hunter's orange Tabasco sauce, subtle striations
I am
Developing a sensitivity to Orange
Creak of door hinge, washing of hands
Carotene carrot top visible in absence of Chlorophyll
Chemistry I once knew; Too old now, too blue
For Chemistry; but I still fall for Fall

    genius

Some unusual, under used words in this piece. I am not entirely certain what the meaning is,I sense it may be about change and love lost, but which ever the story this is based upon, this is a supreme entry.

It is an awareness of autumn; penned at lunch in a diner. My favorite time of year, for the cooling temperatures, the colors, the holiday, American football, hunting.
The poem is in the shape of a pepper shaker. Henna is an ancient coloring used for red hair. Lucille Ball was an actress known for her use of Henna for trademark red hair. He show "I Love Lucy" was shown around the world. LSU= Louisiana State University football team, always is known on the national scene, winning two national championships this decade. Auburn is also a University in Alabama, that is a fierce rival. We won last night; big party at my house!
Pink hearts... is a chant from a childhood commercial breakfast cereal called "Lucky Charms."

The other things are the orange things on the walls decorating the diner; and the thoughts they inspired...
