Far away he gazed, seeing the unseen.
His tired eyes became glassy,
Pale lips lifted to reveal a gummy grin.
Reaching into space he tightly clutched nothing,
As if it were his last chance at breath.
I wondered curiously...
Who, What, and Where was he going.
I imagined a tearful reunion.
In my mind I watched as he held his wife to him,
Stroked her hair as she smiled up at him and said...
"I have been waiting".
Quickly tears flooded my eyes as I thought of my lost love.
I replayed a similar reunion in my head for the two of us,
I saw him standing healthy and strong within in brilliant golden light.
He was smiling, his bright blue eyes were full of love and that little bit of naughtiness that I miss so terribly.
I made my way closer to him as his arms stretched wider,
waiting for me to take my place within his comfortable and secure embrace.
I collapse into him and cry relief, then inhale life for what feels like the first time since his passing.
After a moment in each others arms he leans back and lifts my chin so my eyes meet his and quietly whispers his love, I reply with the usual "I know" before he takes my hand and together we walk away, into the light.
