Untouchable You (Part 1 of 2)

A simple
  yet somehow flattering
        mistake.

But looking up
  at a grin
  that was to etch itself
              into my memory
I suddenly wish you'd been right.

The huge gulf
                            between us
          seems somehow smaller
          across that little wooden table
over smiles
        and laughter

We could be anyone we wanted
  We could live those dreams
                of flying...
And all of of a sudden
the other side of the world
            doesn't seem
like such a long way to go.

I take your arm
our footsteps
                  echoing
off the shimmering pavements
in the street-lit world

where we both somehow belong.

But too soon
we must go our separate ways
to live two lives
          that are worlds apart...

And while we're happy
          to go on
              with this steadily growing
  new-found friendship
every now and then
      a smile
or a sparkle of meeting eyes
will take us back
      to a world

where we both somehow belong.

A world of softened shadows
    that are just
                              out of reach...

A world that shines a beautiful light
          on everything

making untouchable you

                impossibly perfect.

What did you think?

    Naomi...you write such beautiful words.
    The background matches so nicely.
There is a great lilt and pace to this piece...as well as its message
    Great touches include
    "where we both sometimes belong"
"softened shadows that are just out of reach"
I like the shape and choice of line breaks.

Another beauty from your pen...and heart.
