No Label, No Brand

10:43 28 October 2009 Thursday
M: Enlightened
P: Living Room

I.
History spilled my canvas, my fingers wet
Paint on hands, wordless youth, I spoke
Working the colors to an image,
Of something called "me"
Close is close, but only surrealistic

II.
Before romantic love, I had a friend
Living in my veins, speaking loudly in my head
Guiding me through creating, through expressing
"Your palette consists of vocabulary colors,"
Too young to understand, I was impressionistic

III.
Shakespeare-bound, Frost-lead, Neruda-high
Poetry, I tasted, a drug free yet invaluable
I began to use substantially, without limits
I drank shot after cup after bottle after keg
Eyes open, I was a realist of another kind

IV.
Life's confusion, inadequate addictions, society
All fueled this art, but I wanted it to know me by name
Hand out, I introduced my young soul to written articulation
... I wandered under its shadow as an apprentice, learning
"You are your own, no label, no brand, your name is Kristy."

V.
My heart is a theatre where only I know the act
Every line, every scene, every actor
I stand and watch the rehearsal, an endeavor made, never perfect
My birth is a right to write, as I've been taught
My fingers are my lips

Author notes

Poetry and writing have taught me more than any book I read at school... Its humanity, its pure, unadulterated emotion...

I love your style. Your originality and voice is so strong in this piece. I adore your choice of words. This truly is a magnificent piece.
Unfortunately though, due to lack of entries, instead of judging I am going to have to delete the contest.
Thank you so much for writing and entering though.

    • Why thank you! Don't worry about the contest, it was a great idea, no doubt, try again If it wouldn't have been for your idea, however, this piece would have never came into being and for that, I thank you

      In appreciation,
      Kristy
