And so I take my final bow,
my lines complete,
my role at an end,
discarding my mask
like a true soubrette,
leaving the stage,
to sit in the wings,
hiding from the light
as the show goes on
without me.
No more my heart
may beat to passion’s tide
as breath exhales its last
and blood congeals
in the Winter of life’s
closing juncture,
concluding the book
of existence in a chapter
of reminiscence
and regret.
Forever watching,
always listening,
no longer bound by sleep,
invisible to the eyes
of the living soul,
but for chosen few
who see beyond the veneer
of corporeality’s
sublime paramnesia.
But alas, I learn more
of life in death
of humanity’s nature
than in all my years
of mortal cognizance.
And I realise, how strange the living feel…
Author notes
Prompt: “And I realize, how strange the living feel”.

I love a good Ghost Story and this piece fit the prompt like a glove....this conveys an almost sweet melancholy, of a life come and gone yet forever staying within it's ghostly comfort zone....Beautiful!!!!
Thanks for entering and Good Luck in the Contest!!!! -
Very Intense
This line made me shiver “invisible to the eyes of the living soul” just to ponder this thought makes on want to weep…for the sins revealed would be marked forever… for these unseen would bear witness to a multitude of sins the world over… profound darling. I gift you my heartfelt thank you with a deep sigh reading these dark thoughts.

Oh yeah.. love this! Think you've penned something amazing around that prompt. I think we might all feel like this at times... I wonder at humanity a lot... or should I say, the lack of it.
Awesome write Fritz!
